Superwinch only makes two Jeep-size winches in the US any more, the X-9 and S9000. They import all their other winches from China now as well.

Look on Craigslist for a used Warn. I did and bought a XD9000i for under half price.

Who said not to go with Warn? You can find a new Warn M8000 for very close to $500 and you can find used Warn or Ramseys for that price if you look around.

Craigslist like I said. May take a month or two, but my XD9000i cost me $400 used. I have seen 2 other guys here get used XD9000i's for $400-500

Good luck.

I see you are from Utah. How close is this?

Warn M12000 Premium Series Winch

It mounts by 10X4.5 just like all the common winches. This winch is $1500+ new. He is firm at $400 Just check about the voltage, there is a 12 volt and 24 volt winch. It is overkill for your Jeep, but the price is killer!!!

I have heard good things about the Q-Tec. I am sure it would be fine for a little while but I would upgrade sooner or later. Warn is good stuff but expensive, like Plowboy said craigslist will be come your friend. I had a Super Winch LP8500 it was really nice. I have heard good things about ENGO there really well priced

Warn has rebuild parts for there winches. If anything is wrong, you can get parts.

Warn Industries - Jeep, Truck & SUV Winches: M12000

Warn Industries - Replacement Parts

Like I said, just make sure it is a 12 volt winch. I don't know how easy it would be to convert it to 12 if it was a 24 volt winch........Jerry.....any input?

If it was a 12 volt winch, I would grab it.

Like the other gentleman here, I too also bought a Warn XD9000i for $400 in good condition. Deals can be had, you just need to look around. Checkout the classifieds on Pirate4x4 as well. They frequently have good deals on quality winches.

As for the M12000, I'd pass on that one. It's very big and very heavy. People have enough issues with their front ends sagging from smaller 8K-9.5K winches, I'm sure the 12K winch would be even worse. Something smaller would probably suit you better. A friend of mine was given a brand new Warn M12000, and that's the reason it's still sitting in his garage.

I've posted my thoughts on the Quadratec winch before after seeing it in person. I didn't actually see it in use, but there are too many little quirks about it they need to change before I could recommend it.

Winches are like anything else. Tons of brands and everyone is partial to one or the other. I use a ton of winches in the fire service and have them on my truck and jeeps. Warn is good but pricey. Personally i've burnt up alot of solenoids in the warns. In the military we mainly used Milemarker. Thats what i bought for my jeep and truck and have never had a problem with them in 15 years. Few friends of mine run the quadratec winches. Of the times we have had to use them, they performed fine. There is of course the usual saying, you get what you pay for. But unless you find a good deal on ebay or craigslist, dont buy anytthing for the name alone. I dont care if its made in china, the arctic, or brazil. If it works it works. Alot of American stuff is just as shoddy as anything else.

It'd be easy but very expensive to convert a 24v winch to a 12v, you'd need all new solenoids and a new motor. However, the odds of it being a 24v winch are slim.

If your counting penny's then I would say do it but 12000lb is a lot for a weekender. I would go for a Superwinch 8500 LP they are the same price and are very good. Or look up Engo for the same price they are a very good winch.

Check out the Engo winches. I haven't heard anything bad about them. There is a thread on here about them and a link to an article about a winch shoot out that they compared a bunch of different brands

Ive got a smittybilt xrc 8000 and im happy with it. But i kind of wish id got the super winch for $300 because of the better warranty, best thing to do is try and learn all you can about winches the main problem most people have is overheating them give them a break on long pulls and get out and feel it and see if its getting hot every so often. And i know two people with defected warn m8000 not saying that there not a good winch if id had the money id have a warn, but they can have there problems too.
