If you'll forgive my poor geography, I'll certainly forgive any mistakes you might make with english, deal?
Besides, your english is far better than many our native english speakers.
I was just trying to get the guys to go easy on you.

I can only offer a somewhat educated guess on your original question. A bored throttle body should allow more air fuel mixture to flow but that really only helps at higher rpms, same with the spacer, the I6 isn't really designed as a high rpm motor. I really don't think you'd see enough improvement to warrant the expense.

BTW, I'd love to see some pictures of where you offroad.

W/O, There is so much talk about Throttle Body's and TB Spacers on the web that it's hard to sort out which is BS and which isn't. If you believe the manufacturer's then they are giving you 15% gains in power from them. If you talk to people that actually have them most of us will tell you they don't do didly squat and if you don't do something to modify the computer program on your Wrangler you will never get more power out of it.

I run a TB Spacer and cold air intake and honestly I haven't seen any kind of power gain at all. I got it for free and that's why it's on there. I am also have at the momen the Edge Trail Jammer Kit sitting in my garage. It's a little different scenario because it adds an inline computer module to alter the fuel programming of your engine. Their power gains should be more realistic.

About the throttle body stuff, for the money, it is hardly worth it. But there are a lot of opinions about it. From some of the mechanics on here, they do not work well enough to justify the modification.

you will hear it both ways, just like the CAI. However to me it was pretty noticable. Definate throttle responce increase and it runs smoother. I have a high flow cat/ magnaflow muffler and a CAI so I believe the bored throttle body works in conjunction with those for the effect I have. All complement each other nicely. The only other performance mod I would consider is the JET stage 1 chip....It's pretty pricy though so i'm looking for a used one. Gears will do the most help performance wise, but to answer your question; I think my bored throttle body incereased my HP and throttle response. (I have the 6cyl 4.0 as well)

Oman,
Just to clarify for you, since I think it may have gotten lost in all the other chatter, a throttle body is a housing containing a valve to regulate the airflow through the intake manifold. You already have one of these. A throttle body spacer is used to raise the throttle body up a bit to allow better fuel mixing and a complete burn, which in theory gives more power and better mileage.

Some folks use a throttle body off of another engine that has a bigger bore to boost performance.

Anyway you look at it, I think it's all for nothing. I have a throttle body spacer on my 4.0 and I really haven't noticed any difference with it. I've also asked a few of the techs here at the dealership and I've been told that they are a waste of money.

For what it's worth, I hope that helps. Welcome to the forum, I definitely think that you are going to fit right in.

I can tell a difference in my yj with a 4.0 throttle body on the 2.5 engine. My gas mileage went up about 2 mpg and I get better pep starting off and it's much easier to maintain highway speed. I have a spacer but I didn't install it. It is a 2.5 spacer and I hear that they whistle under a 4.0 throttle body.

I'll do all the whistling around here!!!

JP Magzine did an article a couple of years ago with dyno results from bolt on parts. These parts included low restriction air cleaners, larger throttle bodies, new ignition components, and low restriction exhaust.

There was a little power increase to be had with the correct combination of intake and exhaust parts, but the increase was minimal for the money spent. These parts also tend to raise the torque peak and are therefore somewhat counter productive to what I think a Jeep needs. Low speed torque.

Seems to me that the Jeep they used had 75K to 80K miles on it and was in decent shape. Surprisingly, the replacement of the old ingition components had almost as big an effect as the other changes.

The best performance bang for the buck is gears. They multiply the available torque for increased perforance all across the engine operating range.

Does she write tech articles? does she write anything about Jeeps?
We picked up a copy of that mag awhile ago and I saw her segment, I read it a couple times trying to figure out what possible relevance she had to Jeeps.
I can understand having a "hottie" in a mag primarily read by guys, damn, Why not get an actual Jeep luv'n hottie?
