Question about a job

So, after months of battling vibes once I shift into 4th and hit 35-40 mph, and getting help here, I am thinking about changing out my rear pinion bearings. Would bad bearings cause vibes like the ones I have described? There is a slight squeal when im in 3rd or 4th gear and going up a hill.

So, my real question is, how tough of a job would this be to replace the pinion bearings (inner and outter)? Im by no stretch of the imagination a mechanic, but with instructions I have gotten a 4" lift on and did my SYE (with a little help from a friend). Is this just something I should bite the bullet on and take it to a Jeep mechanic in the area (Jeff Daniels Jeeps)? Input is always greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

I'd double check the pinion angles before you replace anything. If you did the sye/cv then you need to point the pinion at the trans.

Ive tried the pinion at the exact same angle as the DS, 1* below and 2* below and still have vibes.

Yea I do have SYE and cv DS. I've gone from pinion angles 1* lower than the DS, 2* lower, and identical angles, still have vibes at all. I'm thinking it's the seal/bearing because of the squeal I get when it's it's strained.

Take the rear drive shaft off and drive around in 4wd for a while. If it still vibrates you may have bad u-joints in the front shaft/axle, or a bad balancer/flange on the SYE kit.

The pinion bearings are a strange failure. They don't see alot of lateral force, and are constantly doused with gear oil from the diff.

I should have added that. I removed the rear DS and drove in 4Hi and it drove like a charm. How can I test the SYE flange?
