Question about ford 8.8 w/ disc brakes?

Alright, so I am about to buy a ford 8.8 set up with 4 link suspension, 4.88 gears, and welded, but the only thing is, it has disc brakes. I think thats a pretty good thing, but what kind of parts would I need to install on my jeep. Another cylinder or anything? Never really dealt with rebuilding brakes before, just replacing pads and such. Thanks.

I cant help but yes disc brakes
is a good thing
I am sure there has been a write up
on the forum it is a upgrade most look
for with a 8.8
Does your front already have 4.88

No, it does not I am dgoing to have to install those to... What do you think I should do: replace the front axle with another axle and the gearing, or just keep the front axle(d30), and replace the gearing? Thanks.

What type of 4-link is the axle set up for?

If the spiders are welded, I'd look for a new carrier if you are going to continue to drive it on the street at all.

As far as the brakes go, I think you just need the brake hardware kit for the e-brake cable.

I drilled and taped a hole in the axle housing for the same set up that is on your existing axle on the drivers side of the pumpkin. Order two of the rubber hoses that are for the passenger side ford explorer caliper which will be your new left and right hoses that get attached to the calipers. Connected to that you will need a 12" and a 30" piece of steel brake line . The 30" piece of 3/16 line connects the passenger side hose to the OE Dana 30 Brake line block that u tapped the axle for the vent tube that holds the block in place .The 12" steel line is for the drivers side to connect to the same block so it looks like the OE dana 30 set up . Weld a tab to each spring mount to attach the end of the Rubber explorer line to ,one on each spring mount . I think the tap for the axle vent was 7/16x20 . If you look under the TJ section at Jeeps Unlimited you will see about 100 pages about installing an 8.8 at the very top ,its a sticky so its always there and at Stu Olsons site has another write up .
