question about snow board racks

I have a hard top TJ and have been researching my options for a snowboard rack. I have been trying to find a used one but it has been difficult to find one that is made to mount without rain gutters. I found someone who has one that mounts directly to where the window is and not to the hardtop, but the only problem is that the bars wont be very spread out and directly on top of the windows. Is this ok or should I take another route. Please remember that I'm on a budget as well!! Trying to buy a house and pinching pennies currently. Thanks for any suggestions.

There are a couple of threads on this but there is not a real comprehensive answer (2 door vs. 4, TJ vs JK, safari-style vs factory look vs rigged...). I think where I might land is with artificial rain gutter mounts on the hardtop in the back and to the hardtop rain gutters in the front. I should be getting the Jeep by the middle of December and should have my setup within a week of that time.

I saw the TJ with the rain gutter racks directly over the doors (jeepforum, maybe??) but I ski so that would not be a solution for me. I'm also not huge on the idea of drilling tracks into the top although it seems like a great option for some jeepers on here.

Good luck--it's a much harder search than I thought...

junkyard Ford Explorer racks work well. I tried the Yakima rain gutter deals...that sucked.

as for being on a budget...this cost about $20, $12 from the junkyard, $8 in UV proof silicon and stainless bolts, not including the actual Yakima snowboard clamps...but you can buy those on craigslist or something.
