Question about wheel toe and DW..

Can wheel toe come out of alignment? My tires are really shot (REALLY. New ones coming soon..)...adjusting the toe in fixed my DW about 3 weeks ago, but the DW returned today...I know there are a million and one causes but given the fact that my tires are so crappy is it possible that the toe in was affected or should I search elsewhere for the source?

your adjustment probably didn't change but wear in the joints can change it..it's probably just the tires

I'm not sure..I didn't have to come to a complete stop, but I had to drop down to about 30mph on the highway..happened around 70mph when I hit a bump. Shook violently enough to knock everything to the floor...change from the little holder, glasses, iPod..it's what I've been assuming is DW. If it gets worse than what I went though I'm going go start sitting on a rubber blanket on the way to work

Thanks! When I installed my lift I had to relocate the TB mounting hole...the hole the instructions had me drill was a good amount bigger than the bolt..the bolt is also loose in the bushing. I ordered a new bushing, I think I'm going to fit a bigger bolt through to tighten everything and see if that solves it.

Any idea where I can pick up nuts with the flange on them like the stock one for the TB? I can use any nut but if it gets rusted on it's going to be a b**ch to get off down the road..

I have a smaller bolt than hole so I just tightened the crap out of it. Instead of a flange nut I use a stainless washer and two bolts. One locks the other bolt down. I have had 0 problems with it loosening since.

Edit, I use two nuts on the bolt. One nut locks the other down.

I have been chasing a 57mph wobble the past couple weeks and thought it was resolved with a new track bar, not! Had the tires rebalanced today and wobble is gone, not even a hint of it on bumpy roads.

I overlooked the obvious and spent $400 when the rebalance was free! Not saying this is the answer to your problem. Just an FYI.

Just a bit of history on my wobble. First came to light 50k miles ago, spent some time trying to find the problem but needed new tires also. Got new tires and it went away? New tires were balanced, solved problem. Rebalanced old tires, solved problem. I am shopping for new tires again as we are close to due and winter is coming.

Good to know, thanks! If the bolt through the TB doesn't fix it I'll be getting tires in 2 weeks or so, so I'll save any big fixes until after I get those balanced and mounted..thanks for the heads up!

To be clear death wobble is the entire vehicle shaking very violently.
Steering shimmy is when the steering wheel shakes in your hand.
Two very different, but sometimes related problems.

I refer to mine as a wobble because I could accelerate or decelerate out of it. There was about a 5mph window that was pretty exciting! And if you held it there long enough the entire Jeep would feel like the wheels were coming off!

I was trying to get rid of mine before subjecting new tires to a potential wear issue.
For once I did not put the cart before the horse and it still bit me!
Getting the tires would have saved me $400 in parts trying to resolve the problem!

Go figure, Jeeps cant live without em'....
