I am going to look at a '98 Wrangler tonight, 136K miles 5 speed. I believe this link will get you to it ....... url?sa=t&rct=j&q=rochester%20craigslist%201998%20j eep%20wrangler%20gates&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&ved =0CEEQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Frochester.craigslist.o rg%2Fcto%2F3228522294.html&ei=WhRTUKddkoj2BOD8gcAC &usg=AFQjCNGPKAzI96YTAyfB8WGvT4mSRuTEeg
COments, concerns. Its my first jeep and will be my daily driver. Thank you all for the advice ahead of time ....
Looks good - Although I'd personally stay away from the 4 cyl engine, a lot of people have the 4 cyl engines. Definitely drive it, 2WD and 4WD, and check for any clicks, groans, etc. 136K miles for $5K isn't bad. Also check the book value on it - You should be able to talk them down to $4500 if you offer cash.
The wife seems to say "you bought WHAT??"a lot ... Hail to my TJ!
If it were me personally the jeep would have to be PERFECT for me to consider going 4cyl.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the smaller engine but... there are suspension differences, power and performance differences, economy differences... Its definitely something to think about
Thanx. I believe I would be ok with the 4cyl. What would you say the gas mileage is with a 4cyl? Is there a major difference the suspension and performance? WouldI not be able to do some offroading if I was able to find a place nearby? I really appreciate the comments. Keep them coming.
I love my 2.5 5 speed. Even though its not my DD, I still don't have problems with power. Our group does quite a bit of trail riding - anything from mud, hills, rock, to a leisure back road drive through the country. In 4-low that thing will go anywhere.
My only concerns about the one your contemplating buying is the rust on the frame / undercarriage. Pay close attention to it, check it out and make sure it's not rusted all the way thru your frame.
