Questions about a custom suspension kit

I searched the forums, but I failed to find a similar instance (wrong keywords?). Has anyone attempted a ground up suspension, or better put: buying each part individually. My main question is if it would be the most effective use of money in comparison to buying a complete lift.

Any feedback is appreciated

This is very possible. And parts needed are totally dependent upon how high you want to go, the size tires you want to run, and what you're planning on doing with the jeep.

Agreed, it all depends on what your wanting to do and how high of a lift and how much money you want to spend.

Yep. I had thought about that too after I had posted. Between Unlimited's knowledge about clearance and Imped's knowledge about CA setups, you can build one mean rig if you just listen to what they say and learn.

Gotta love the jeep community! Thanks for all the helpful links and information! In terms of what I would like: 2.5-3in lift with 33s, while being a dd plus capabilities of rock/desert terrain driving.

Sounds like a plan. You may need some other mods to fit 33's like a 1-1.25" bl or highline fenders such as metalcloaks.

Rancho 9000XLs - front/rear
JKS Q Discos
JKS 1.25″ - or Daystar 1" BL, still deciding
JKS 1" MML
JKS Adj. front/rear JJ track bar

I would like to get OME Springs, but I'm not quite sure which ones. Anyone help with that? I found rear 2.5" med/hvy, but not front?

Ranchos are very good shocks.

From personal experience, the Antirock is a far superior swaybar compared to JKS QD's. I hated disconnecting/ connecting the old JKS links. Trying to find level ground and getting hands all greasy/dirty sucked.

Savvy BL is better. The body pucks are cupped to sit around the factory pucks perfectly, and the grill snubbers are superior to JKS IMO.

All MML spacers are pretty much the same.

Really with a 2" lift I don't think adjustable trackbars are necessary and just cause more headaches then they are worth. I ran a 2" lift on stock trackbars for a couple years with no issues at all. If you put adjustable trackbars you are likely to run into clearance issues and are going to have to bumpstop the crap out of it so you don't hit everything.

Just my 2 cents..

Up to you really. Personally I don't mind spending a few extra bucks for something higher quality. The JKS will get the job done the same, the Savvy one is just a little more refined.

Forgot to add, one of my wheeling buddies added a 2.5" OME like you were looking at. He did add their rear trackbar bracket, not sure if it was necessary but just thought I would mention it.

Just the front. The factory rear swaybar is soft enough already and isn't restrictive.

So, I've changed up the plan a little bit after more research.

Stage 1:

Rancho 9000xl (est. $260-270)
2.5" OME MD Front Coils ($170)
2.5" RC Progressive Rear Coils (est. $100-140)
-if necessary, adjustable track bar
BFG 33s ($340 on CL)

Stage 2:

Aussie Front Locker ($250 w/o install)
JKS 1" mml ($80)
JKS 1.25 bl ($120)

I'm not quite sure on the order I'll do things, though.
A) Put on the tires and deal with the awful street driving until I can afford to regear (it's a DD so...)
B) Save for tires and regear, but I'm not sure if I'll favor the look
C) Save for tires, regear, and locker, install it all at once without paying for labor 2x.

I'm thinking C is the most efficient idea. Any thoughts appreciated!
