questions about this part?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

is this the control arm? well i noticed today that it was up against one side of the metal plate. say if your looking at the jeep from the front it's up against the left side of the bolt/metal plate, but the passenger's side is in the middle. so i tried to move it to see if it was loose and sure enough with a little force i could move it. but i couldnt move the one on the passengers side. does this mean the bushing is bad? sorry im not familiar with all these parts yet. the picture is looking at it from the back side.

Judging from that picture, I'd say you are correct. Looks like a front lower control arm with a bad bushing to me. Couple more pics would be helpful, but I'd say you're right.

thats what i was thinking too. well i tried to move it to the middle and it wont stay, so i assume its a bad bushing but not sure.

I'd be pretty sure, lol. Make sure the bolt is tight, replace the bushing, and grease if necessary. Bushings aren't very hard to press out and in.

i don't know if you know this or not but that's an aftermarket control arm, so you will need to find out what kind and replace the bushing with the correct part. it looks like a rubicon express arm but i can't say for sure.

It looks like an aftermarket arm to me too. Also I think it is a rebuildable ball joint, they have two bushing halves and one side is probably bad. I would remove the bolt and drop the arm down to take a look at it. Make sure to mark where the camber bolt is set as or you'll need to get it realigned if you put it back in wrong.
