quick 33" question

so my question is, is there anything i need to do to the axle or can i run it the way it is?

You should be fine, some friends of mine are running 33's, with a D-35 in the rear with no issues.

You'll be okay for a while with 33s on a D35 as long as you don't lock it. I ran mine like that for a few months before I swapped axles.

Be wary though. While it may be ok for light wheeling with 33" tires so long as no locker is installed, I have had to help wheelers with a Dana 35c and only 31" tires off the trail with busted axle shafts.

Another broken Jeep Dana 35c Rear-End.

It's a device that goes in the diff and locks the axle shafts together making the tires spin the exact same speed. That way if one tire loses traction, all the power won't go to that one. It also adds stress to the axle so if you lock up a D35 with 33" tires you have a good chance of breaking it.

set your bumpstops for the 33s and your shock length, and you're good to go.

give this a read:

some 4x4s automatically lock their center/rear diff when 4low is engaged, maybe that's why he told you that.
