Quick help for a HP D30!!!

i have found an HP D30 out of a 94 Cherokee. its going for $100.00. Should i jump on it for my 97 TJ? Would i have to change anything else on my Jeep to make it work. I know the gears would have to be changed. Would my gears currently in my LPd30 work in the HP? Any thoughts or ideas?

I did a quick search and from what i can tell the reason the hp works is because the gears are reverse cut which means they can not be swapped.

Still unsure if i should get this or not. Is it a good deal to get the HPD30 for 100? I have 4.56 currently so i would have to regear it if i bought it. I know these come and go pretty quick so what should i do? buy it now or wait for something else?

HP D30's aren't hard to find in the junkyard.....lots of XJ's around.

$100 is the going rate for a HPD30. I paid about $90 at the junkyard. It sat on my garage floor for months, while i acquired the parts necessary. I didn't swap it in until I finished installing a truss, reinforcing all the mounts, new ball joints and Vanco brakes. I drove it the alignment shop then the gear guy. I'd suggest you do the same....don't install it until you have EVERYTHING to make it happen.

Just to confirm what was said above that the gears are different for a HP vs. a LP axle. Everything else is interchangeable but I would upgrade the axle shafts to use the larger 5-760x u-joint. Older axles like that used the smaller 5-260x u-joint that is not as big or as strong as what is on the TJ. It will accept standard TJ axle shafts.
