Quick question

hey guys,

I've posted on here a couple times with some questions as I am in the process of tracking down my wrangler. Todays crazy questions is .....

What is alot of miles for 4.0 wrangler between the years of 97-00?

Those are the years I am currently looking at. I am looking to spend around 5k and not to my surprise everything around that price is high miles. I have found a few a couple months back that were lower in mileage but none recently.

I have no plans of doing any off road driving... just your normal day to day. I am looking for something that will last me a bit.

let me know what you think guys....

its tough to say. i have a 1996 grand cherokee with the 4.0L and it has 209K miles, my 1983 CJ7 4.2L has 170K. my husbands yj 4.0L has 125K. i love the jeep 6 cyl. engines. they last damn near forever. I'd say, a lot of miles on a 1997-2000 would be in the range of 150K-170K.

I found a really nice looking 4.0 for around 5k, but it has 140k on it. I just cant see shelling out that type of money for that many miles. Maybe I am just not used to the long lasting 4.0 : )

My '97 has 178,000 miles on it, all of which are mine, and there's nothing about it I wouldn't trust to take anywhere for any distance. With its zero oil consumption and quiet operation, I expect nothing less than at least 250-300K miles before it needs any work. Whether or not it has been well maintained as mine has been has more to do with it being a good buy or not, not necessarily just its mileage.

is this the wrangler w/ the 3" spring lift? $5000 is a lot of money for a jeep w/ that many miles on it. i would offer the guy $2500 at the most an see what he says. the jeep should last for a long time but $5000 is rediculous. my TJ is a 2005 w/ 63K on it and I could probably only get $7000-$8000 for it at best.

i completely agree with you jerry. i was actually going to mention about the care taken w/ the engine. i didn't want to be hypocritical though. the grand cherokee i have/had (long story) has about 209K miles on the clock and is still going strong, but in its entire life the oil was only changed about 10 times. the jeep was used for about 160K miles towing a 2000 lb trailer everyday (my dad used it for his business), the rest of the mileage was what i put on it going to and from college every day. I chalk the life of the engine up to luck.
