Cool QUICK QUESTION (sub in trunk)

I'm building my buddy with a TJ a box tomorrow and am trying to look for some good deals on subs tonight. I think I will make a box that is down-firing. The box will go in the trunk/back of his jeep behind the back seats and I know that it is not a large space. So my question was, will a 12 fit? Or will I have to resort to a 10? Thanks jeepers

Spencer

Pick the sub and then make the box to the proper size. Will a 12" fit, yes but what will it sound like? Any good speaker manufacturer will give you sealed or ported box sizes for their speakers. If you cannot hit that size then reduce the sub size. Keeping the back seat in you will be lucky to get 1.25 cubic feet and will be too small of a space for a 12".

I have two 8" kickers and the box is made for the speakers and sounds great. 1.01 cubic feet.

I have two 12s behind the rear seat. Sounds great. They are Alpine Type E's. I think
it cost me about $25 to build.

$88.88 on Amazon.
Amazon.com: Pioneer TS-SW2501S2 10-Inch Shallow Subwoofer with 1200 Watts Max Power: Car Electronics

LOVE IT!

Pushing it with a 800 watt mono Pioneer amp.

How many cubic feet did you get out of that box? What was the manufacturer spec on the box size for those speakers?

If you're asking me.....

the box was given to me by a friend, some prefab, ported box he bought on clearance at Bestbuy.
It's a bit over .5 cubic feet.

Specs on the sub. I have the 2ohm version.

TS-SW2501S2|S4 - 10" Shallow-Mount Subwoofer with 1200 Watts Max. Power | Pioneer Electronics USA

I'm using this amp. It's mounted inside of the armrest where the old factory sub was.
GM-D7500M - Class-D Mono Amplifier with 800 Watts Max. Power | Pioneer Electronics USA
It's a lot cheaper on Amazon.

You can't hear the bass in the video, but you can see how much the bass vibrates the camera.

Eventually, it will get built into the back seat.

Thanks dudes. My bud decided to mount the sub a different way so a 12 will fit with ease. I know box specs and tuning are crucial, with that said we build the box the way he wanted it. The box has a just under 1.2 cubes. We built it to fit right in between the hinges and handle things that protrude.
