Quiet Exhaust

After searching for quite a while on the forums, I can't really find a straight answer. I need a muffler because my rotted to pieces, but I want one that's pretty quiet. Most of the forums on here are guys wanting more noise, I want less noise. I don't want to hear the drone while driving around. And, I don't really like house the flow master 40 series, or similar mufflers, sound. They seem too much like a tuner car.

I need a basically stock sound....?

Can't see why you don't get a stock muffler. A muffler shop should be able to supply you with a quiet muffler.

My magnaflow is really quiet. I had a flowmaster on my XJ and it was annoying as hell. I got my stainless magnaflow for the same price the local muffler shop was going to charge me for a factory replacement. I'm happy with it.

I agree...I paid $35 for my Thrush. But our mufflers are probably made in China. I would hope that for that price that OEM is US made.

yeah that's part of the issue. there's no way i'm spending 250+ on a muffler that's ridiculous. There has to be a cost effective aftermarket alternative.

You can purchase a complete cat back system for $126.98 ....then get the Dynomax rebate of $75...Hmmm no question at just over $50 for a new system. Noise level is about the same as stock....google Youtube and search from there.

Here's one of the youtube vids of that muffler. Sounds like a winner to me!

^^^ that sounds good but doesn't exactly sound stock. That's the sound I was kind of looking for when I bought my magnaflow but mine sounds nothing like that. Mine is very quiet.

I vote for magnaflow...

has a nice sound to it but isnt loud, doesnt drone, and isnt raspy at all...is basically the stock noise level with a better sound...

NO! STAY AWAY FROM THE DYNOMAX IF YOU WANT IT STOCK QUIET! Sorry to yell but even though they're dirt cheap they are most definitely louder than stock and to me a bit annoying because like you I wanted it quiet. I had Borla Stingers on my Mach 1 that my wife could hear from half a mile away and they were PERFECT for that car so it's not the old fogey in me talking. The Dynomax definitely drone and rumble at idle which is not what I wanted on my Wrangler (though for 60 bucks are on for life now lol).

Yea, I heard a little bit in the video clip. Didnt sound too bad at idle.

Already got mine shipped and it will cost $20-$25 to ship it back - almost the cost of the muffler itself. Might as well try at this point.

engine swap

We have a 95 Yj with the good old 2.5 , 4cyl in it and am thinking about changeing the motor out. This little motor does not give you much confidence when megring onto the highway or pull into traffic. Not really looking for raceing power for a jeep but would like something with a little Huff to get into traffic, Does anyone have any suggestions on what would be a pretty painless swap?

I also have the Magnaflow. It sounds good, but isn't much louder than stock. I am sure that it is quieter than the one you have.

I have 850 miles on the dynomax super cat back and it sounds very similar to stock. At idol its a little louder, but as soon as I start moving it sounds stock...

Yeah, I gotta agree with you. A little louder at start up, or idle at a light, but it doesn't seem much louder than stock. I have about 500 miles on mine. Smelled a bit during burn in, but part of that time was when Just the bikini top of my trek top nx was on. For ~$60 after rebate, I thought it was a great price to replace my rusty eom part (after 104k miles).
