Radio doesnt work?...

I bought a 2000 wrangler... it has an aftermarkey radio (an older pioneer where you can pop the face plate off).... what is odd is the CD player works fine, however the radio is just all low static for every station... anyone have any thoughts on what may be wrong?

take off the glove box so you can have a better view of the antenna cable. like dfib said, it probably got disconnected.

There is a little flexible plastic "stop" for the glove box door that when pushed clear of the frame, allows the door to open completely and actually lift completely out via its half-hinges.

I had this same problem with my '98 wrangler. The antenna wire on the back of the stereo box is loose. If it was fully off, then you wouldn't get anything as far as radio stations. If you take the face plate off, etc., and reconnect the antenna wire it should work fine. The frustrating thing about mine, was that it never stayed in and my radio was always fuzzy! I ended up taking it to the local radio guy and he fixed it for $10.

Yeah and if it is plugged in and still not working most likely ur pioneer tuner is gone bad if its over 4 years old. And if you take it somewhere dont go to best buy i use to work there 2 months ago for over 2 years and we would charge atleast 20 per quarter hour just to look at the vehicle and find the problem.

You can't open the glove box to see if the antenna cable is still connected to the radio? And trust me, the techs at Pep Boys are not radio technician types, they're barely able to change oil etc.

^^ Nah I mean if the cable is connected then I am guessing there is something with the tuner itself... which may require someone with some technical knowledge b/c I don't know much about that stuff...

Not many radio repair shops are around any more and if the antenna isn't unplugged, no Pep Boys kind of place will have a clue on how to repair it. See if the cable is connected and if it is, it'll be cheaper and a lot easier to just buy a new radio.

+1 And if you post you location you may get a local board member to take a look at it for you.

Another thing... you do have an antenna on the outside... right? The original owner could've bought the Jeep w/out a radio (therefore a plug instead of an antenna on the right side of the body), and installed the radio to just listen to CD's.

I hate to disagree with Jerry, but in this case I must! If the antenna is connected to the back of your radio and you are still not getting any sound I would advise taking off the glovebox. You will see the antenna cable is connected into the antenna at this point, and it is a very easy access point.

On my jeep this was the case and was an easy 5 second fix. I will take a pic if you need me to.

This may be a little late but if you still haven't fixed your radio problem I have taken a picture of the antenna cable that is behind the glove box. This was disconnected in my jeep when I bought it used and had the same problems as you...
