Radio questions

My TJ came to me with a Kenwood deck and I want an original OE radio to replace it with. What did the OE radio look like for 98? I have a radio from my 99 Ram 2500 w/infinity sound, will it work? My 06 wrangler looked to have a completely different style. Any info would be great before I go into the dash.

Is your equipped with a CD or casette? The one I have is a Kenwood detachable face CD.

Im not sure what type of music you plan on playing on your head unit, but the reason that i swapped my oem unit out was that its not capable of playing cd's that are burned on a computer. plus im not sure, but i wouldnt think that he OEM headunit would have the output power of an aftermarket unit would. Just some things to think about....

Let me guess; nobody steals OEM radio's.
It's also a cleaner look.

Normally the stock infinity systems use a remote amp setup, so even if the head unit fits, you'll need the amp to go with it. At least that's how my '99 Sebring and '05 Durango were, I'm assuming a '99 Ram would be similar.

most aftermarket radios have a detachable face, and its really not that much cleaner of a look... plus if you are worried about theft you can get one of those security enclosures that you place the radio in... slides over the radio and locks, only reason i could see him wanting this is to play cassettes which is a reasonable request if one had many of them and likes to roll classic

That's why I left mine in. That and I like a volume knob.

I think I have the stock head unit out of a 97 ram at home somewhere. I'm just not sure if the plugs are the same or not.
