Radio Recommendations

What radio are you guys using and why? I was looking at one with a built in 7" lcd screen with GPS - seemed handy but want to avoid the gimmicky stuff I will tend not to use long term, y'know, after the gimmick appeal is gone

i've got a pioneer premier head unit that has direct ipod control. i wanted it because the premier gives it one more year of warranty and it came with 3 sets of pre-amp outputs instead of just two. i also wanted something with direct ipod control so i didn't have to use a stereo jack for it. i always buy pioneer head units. they've always done me right.

I found a JVC CD deck the KD-A925BT, that's Pandora compatible. I wasn't going to buy a blue-tooth enabled deck because while driving the jeep with the top down, there's too much wind noise to talk on the phone. but now I see that the blue-tooth system can be used to stream Pandora music from the smart phone to the deck, it's also HD ready, and satilite ready, 2 usb ports, 1 aux port. It's also got the flip down face for the CD player. (keeps the dusty dirt out of the CD player) It's got I-pod/apple phone controls too

This is what I have. I like the fact that my Ipod touch stores inside the headunit. Charges while driving and also has direct control through the headunit and remote.

Alpine , Its my first Alpine and have always noticed the people who are really into car stereo high end seem to use them so I found a good deal on a cheaper model and bought it and it is great sounding with the 4x45 watt rms amp that plug n play with the head unit , no wiring at all for the amp . CDF-121... 68 bucks ebay 109 for the amp can't get much cheaper new.

I went with the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD79 and added the bluetooth remote adapter. Similar to yours but also has built in HD radio. The bluetooth is great. Through bluetooth I stream IHeartRadio, MP3's, GPS audio via my android phone through the head unit. I also have a thumbdrive in the front USB loaded up with mp3s. I can hook up my iPod through the USB port. There is also an auxiliary input in the front panel. Single CD player (although I've never used it) and detachable face plate.

HD radio is pretty cool but reception is sketchy.

I went with a $100 Kenwood...that way I can leave it unlocked or the top off and if someone steals it...well they must have needed it more than me. I have only had Bessie Lou for a year but I will not put anything in her that I can't live without......so if you want something you gotta find me.
