Radio swap

My 97 TJ SE came stock OEM with the full radio/tape player with all the controls etc...I want to swap it with the same OEM radio/CD player which I believe the sahara edition comes with? can this be done or no?

it probably can be, but why not just get a new head unit? you can get a descent one for pretty cheap and they are simple to install.

I have 4 of them if you want I'll sell you one real cheap, with the wiring harness and all. I have 4 pioneer head units from previous trucks I've had. and if you really want an oem I have a stock cd player from my 06 TJ SE that would plug right in.

For the OEM he will need an adapter for the harness and antenna and the newer dash panel. I put one from an 03 in my 2000 TJ, had to do all of that. You would think it was all the same, but nope. I found the adapters at Radio Shack and the dash bezel on-line.

I'd recommend checking out Crutchfield.com - if you order a deck from them, they will include everything you need to replace a stock stereo. For even $100, you can get a deck that will sound a lot better than stock.

I just spent $200 on a deck that gives me Bluetooth calling, aux jack, iPod controlls, etc. Well worth the upgrade price!

Now I will say it didn't cost very much, maybe 20 bucks but I didn't buy a dash panel, I just trimmed mine a little and it fit okay. It's a jeep, doesn't have to be pretty. I only had the am/fm radio so even with the extra 20bucks and I think I paid 30 for the '03 deck, I was content, I don't listen to loud music.
