I'm in the market for a new top for my 02 TJ softop and have been torn between the Rampage frameless and the Bestop Trektop. I'm leaning toward the Rampage because its about $150 less but just wanted your guys opinions. Also would you suggest sailcloth. I can handle the noise from my factory top, so would it be worth the extra money for the sailcloth? Pros and cons of each would be great.

91Badass- is that gap on the top of your door because of factory upper doors? I was hoping to use my factory uppers during the winter and run safari top most of the summer but that gap is worrisome. Will the Trektop have the gap as well or will I need to buy door surrounds for that top as well?

Just my 2 cents here...
I have a '99 with hard doors like yours. If you don't mind my asking, how much will it be to buy the rag doors?

That gap is because he doesnt have door surrounds. Factory style works with the top.

Nice review! I couldnt agree more, this is the best top on the market at the moment. I even like it better than the trek top nx cause of the storage for the windows. I havent really seen any pics of it on and off here so Ill post some:

Safari mode doors off:

Safari mode doors on:

Top on doors off:

You have the frameless top? cause the rampage Framed top sucks but the frameless top is fantastic.

As for the soft doors... I hated them, I had the bestop 2 piece full soft doors , they leaked when it rained and they were a PITA to close. they just arent for every day use. This top will work fine for full hard doors or half steel with hard sliders or soft uppers. Tho I recommend no doors at all lol.

Has anyone ever used the Smittybilt door surrounds? They are much cheaper than Bestop or Mopar, I just questioned the quality. Since I have a soft top already do I need to purchase anything else besides the top and door surrounds? I can use my same tailgate and windshield channel?

As I have continued shopping I have found that the Trektop NX comes with the door surrounds and is sailcloth. The Rampage I have to buy surrounds seperate and it cost more for sailcloth. All together the Trektop will be cheaper. Now it comes down to features. I like the idea of carrying windows with me on the Rampage. Are the windows easily stored or do u find that its easier to just leave them at home? The Trektop I like the Sunrider feature, but have heard that it isn't available on TJ models. Can anyone confirm this?

If you have a soft top, your current door surrounds will work

Well my Rampage Frameless just came in, after a month of shipping. Apparently Rampage is slow at getting the merchandisse shipped to US is what the company that I ordered it from told me. I do have a question through. I was under the impression that since I have a factory soft top I didn't need to buy a windshield channel. Is this correct? If so how do I connect the front of the top on my 02 TJ? I just don't see anything that it can hook to.

FYI my factory channel is the no-bolt type that the original top is screwed into. It is also rivoted to the softtop frame. Can I use this channel if I cut the rivot or will I just ruin my frame for no reason?

No you can NOT use your OEM header. You can use your tail gate bar. Most of the threads on this top the ppl who have it say, and I myself used the bestop header bar.

Erm, I got a new one to use with my top and well, it's exactly the same as the factory tj one that came with a stock soft top. Just FYI

Absolutely can not be used. The way they mount and the way the tops connect to them are both different. Rampage uses the bestop header designed as advertised with their top.

Factory tops were riveted on like he mentioned, rampage top slips into the channel in the front. Factory header had the hinged latch to lock the top down, bestop design one bolts down.

Jradjsb if you read this q tec link for it. It tells you that you need the OEM door surrounds and tailgate bar but a header channel thats sold separately. It is always possible Im wrong, Im not genius so call q tec and ask em, or PM Rampage on here. I can tell you from my experience purchasing one and installing 2 tho, it does not work.

Thanks. I called the company that I ordered my top from and they said I can use my OEM header. So like a fool I drilled out the rivot and removed it from my old top. Tried for an hour and still cant get it to work. Guess I will go buy a new header now.

On a different note. My new top is actually clean and black, which makes my factory soft upper doors realy show their age. Is there anything that will actually restore the color to my doors. Ive seen a lot of things marketed, but what will actually work?

I bought some convertible top cleaner from auto zone that works great. I had the same problem. I'll have to get the name of it when I get home.

My sliders also looked bad after I put my new black top on...in fact my sliders were spice. SEM makes a paint for fabric tops that most auto body supplie stores sell. One coat of sem adhesion promoter and 2 coats of the paint and they looked new too!

Hi, new here. I just bought this top and I have an issue. There is about a three inch gap between the rear window and the side windows. Could this be because the fabric hasn't stretched enough or should I get the ball rolling on returning this item? Thanks for your time.

I dont have this top but with ALL soft tops it has to be warm for a good stretch so get it in the sun or heated garage.

I sold off my hard-top earlier this year. Used it only for "winters" out here, and the rest of the time it was off. No room to store it and I didn't like it, so it went.

Came time last week to get the soft-top put back on, and well my OEM top was more or less trashed. So I trashed it. I'm not in the best financial situation to buy a new new top, but I needed one. Ordered the Trail top bowless soft top.

Install was a bit of a PITA, because I did it by myself but so far I like it. Its a little noisy, but overall not bad. Quality seems fine to me, and its nice to have a 2yr warranty on it. I definitely like the feature to be able to go to a safari top and back really easily.

I'm thinking of getting a frameless soft top, this may be a dumb question but you can take the top down like a framed top instead of just using it as a full/safari top?
