I have an 06 LJ Rubicon. I just did a 2.5" SL and am currently running 30.5" tires on 16's. Would it be safe to say I could upgrade to 32" or 33" tires without having to worry about re-gearing my ring and pinions? That's a pretty $$$$ job and I'm just trying to avoid that right now. Tires are not my speciality at all. So I'm here cause y'all usually know what's up!
Im running 35's on my 06 lj rubicon with stock 4:10s and its not bad around town or on the highway. Off road the 4 to 1 t-case does a good job of making up for the lack of gear in the diffs.
The correct ratio and how well it will run on those 33's depends a lot on which transmission you have. 6-sp or automatic?
Guessing you have the automatic, it will lug severely in Overdrive with 33's and the optimal ratio for that combination is 4.88. Yes, 4.88... which will give you optimal highway RPMs.
4.88 is what you want for 33's, 5.13 for 35's with the 4-sp automatic. The reason for ratios that may sound too low is your 4-sp automatic's .69 Overdrive ratio that drops the RPMs too low for big tires. If 35's are definitely in your future I'd go with 5.13 now. 4.88 is not quite enough gear for 35's which is my current frustrating combination.
Alrighty. Will aim for that. Y'all have been extremely helpful. Just recently got into lifting the jeepidy jeep and wanting to broaden my horizons. I'm not wanting to do extreme rock crawling, but rough terrain and trail riding properly.
Thanks Jerry. I take it you have been down this road before! 😛
