REAR anti-rock pros and cons

Hey I have 05 LJ with a 4 inch suspension lift. I am planning on getting a currie front anti-rock sway bar. When I was researching online I noticed there was also a REAR ant-rock system available. Which required some minor welding and wheel well triming. I dont know the pros and cons of this system and Ive had trouble finding more information on the benefits of the REAR antirock system or problems with it. Any info or experience that you guys have on this product would be appreciated.

The only cons are sometimes it's difficult to make fit only if you are impatient and it does require welding to install.

^^^Black Magic Brakes is probably one of the few on the forum with the most experience as far as the rear (and probably front) antirock goes. What are you looking to find out? There was another member on here that installed a rear antirock on his rig, and he said that even though it is a "heavier" sway bar than the stock one, it improved the performance and ride dramatically.

I was just wondering how much performance gains people noticed and any issues with instillation. If it is worth the money and the install.

Depends on what else you've done to your Jeep and what kind of off roading you do or plan on doing. If it's just a mall crawler don't bother but if you have other mods that work well with the rear antirock then it's a no brainer. Minor welding and I'm sure you can find a buddy with a welder that can do it. It's up to you in the long run, since they aren't cheap.
The rear anti-rock is in my pile of parts for the next install session along with a flat skid,lo-pro mount, out boarding the shocks, PS full crusher corners and novak shifter cable. My Jeep hasn't seen a mall in quite sometime.
What brand of lift?

Your jeep looks a lot like mine.

Yea im defininatly not going for the mall crawler. But i still want to keep it a DD for awhile longer. I like traveling around the norhtwest and want to do a trip to alaska and baja california in the next couple years. In the next 6 months im going to be going up to 35 BF MTR with a 4.88 regear and atleast a detroit trutrac in the rear. eventually im gonna upgrade the front to a dana 44 and put and ARB in it. thats just alot of money right now. for now im going to install a ultra high clearance UCF skid, anti-rock for the front and upgrade all my bumpers with some custom ones im gonna make with my dad. probaly do a orfab tire carrier as well. The suspension I have is just ok. Trail master kit. Has coils, shocks, brake lines, lower fixed control arms and adjustable track bar. It was on the jeep when i bought it. Gonna upgrade to some new fox or bilstein shocks by summers end as well. What are you running?

Are you talking rear D44 or front D44? If you are talking rear...I personally think you are looking at it backwards. If I were you, I would buy/build a rear D44 BEFORE going to bigger tires. If you are running a D35, itd be a waste of money to put bigger tires on, then regear/lock/LSD the D35 (which isnt up to the task of 35" tires in stock form), and then replace it all with a D44. Just to regear and lock the D35...you will be looking at 800-1000 in parts and labor. That is a good chunk of money that can go into a D44. IMO.

If you were talking about a front 44 out of something like a rubicon...there isn't really a benefit over the D30 that is already in there. The only advantage a rubi 44 has over a D30 is the ability to go deeper than a 4.88 gearing.

LJ....have a 44 in the rear already. And ive already started saving for the 44 and ARB up front. So your saying it not worth upgrading to a 44 up front over a 30? Would it be better( or just as good and cheaper) to just do an ARB up front with a 30 spline chromoly shaft?

I run mostly Savvy control arms, BDS coils and my shocks will be bilstein (also in the pile to be installed). I really like having the front anti-rock and I can't wait to get the rear installed. I run a lunch box locker up front and it made a huge difference. I have an air locker for the rear that I will install when I put in the 4.88's. You can keep your stock rear carrier if you run the thicker D44 4.88 gears.
When you go to 35's upgrade your brakes to black magic and beef up the steering. I have the Currie steering set up in my pile to install.
Keep your eye out for a HP30 out of a late 90's Cherokee and put the 4.88's in there and build it up. Sleeve it, brace it, chromo shafts and put a locker in it. Cheaper and easier than building a rubicon D44 which has several D30 parts in it.

I didn't use the antirock, but the GR unit. That being said, I love the rear swaybar, it really helps with stability on the rocks and she stays much more planted on the road mid-turn.

No problem!!! we all make mistakes Still trying to figure out what 44 ill be trying to put in. learning as much as I can about quality of axles, shafts, and gear. Im not that hard on my jeep. I like to crawl and go mudding. Spend time doing little overlanding and adventures. So I dont need some radicules over the top rock crusher axle. What would you recommend for me to look into?

Well if you are dead set on upgrading to a D44, any aftermarket model will probably work fine in your case. It is not worth your time though to swap in a Rubicon D44 front. These 44s are only a 44 at the differential itself...knuckles, u-joints, stub shafts, etc are all the same as what is on the D30. The inner shafts have a higher spline count than the D30, but thats not typically your first point of failure.

Many guys have a lot of luck just running chromoly shafts in a D30 with 35s locked. If you want to one-up this, you can run a HP30 out of a cherokee. These are a bolt in mod that are slightly stronger due to the reverse cut gears with the High Pinion. It puts the stress on the drive side of the gear rather than the coast side of it. The high pinion will also raise your driveshaft up some, which I feel would help with some clearance.

I've installed 10-12 of them and like I said, the ONLY downside is getting them to fit at times. Every other aspect is a plus. Better handling, better performance in the rocks, better on the street, and of course, there is also the cool factor which may appeal to some.

Thanks for the info on this. If I can stay with a dana30(with upgrades ofcoarse) or do a HP 30 instead of a rubicon 44. I would prefer that. Save me some time and money hopefully. Ill start looking for a HP 30 to see if I can get an idea of how much coin it will cost.

Get one out of an XJ...its a bolt in.

The only time I MIGHT consider a Rubi44 is if I had to go deeper than 4.88 gears.

Thanks for the info black magic. I just want to make sure that there was a real benefit from doing it and that it wouldnt make it to difficult to drive on the road.

Thanks....I dont plan on going any lower than 4.88 for now. But of course that can always change. LJ's with 37 are pretty sweet
