Rear bumper and tire carrier

Need a bumper with swing out carrier to fit 35" tire, this double tube style has to go! I am looking at this one

JEEP WRANGLER 1987-2006 REAR BUMPER TIRE CARRIER :eBay Motors (item 150383788920 end time Nov-02-09 17:58:22 PST)

but also like the way this one looks with the lights:
Rampage Products 76610 - Rampage Rear Recovery Bumper with Tire Swing for 87-06 Jeep® Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

Any opinions/experiences with your own would be appreciated, and also some feedback as to which looks best. Suggestions highly appreciated!

I like the idea of some being able to be mounted inch higher to cover up BL , I have a 3" BL

I've got the RockHard rear bumper/tire carrier and so far it's been great. It's very solid and does not rattle at all after over a year of on and off road wear and tear. There are a lot of options, but take your time and continue to seek out feedback from others with the set up you are considering as it seems like a lot of guys are very unhappy with their set ups as you'll hear a lot of people complaining about things like the bumpers rattling, etc.

I also have been looking into getting a new rear bumper with a tire swing out. I have herd a lot of good things about the rockhard, durengo, and shrockworks bumpers. if you get a chance check them out. If you like the rockhard bumper northridge4x4.com has them listed cheaper then rockhard does with free shipping!

Try and find someone local to make one for you. When I'm closer I'm going to see if I can get one like this added on to a rear bumper.

I found the look I really love, debating in ordering this week from 4 wheel parts, they have 30% off an free shipping from smittybilt

anyone ever seen/tested the front bumper and rear bumper/tire carrier XRC models from smittybilt?
I like how the bumpers wrap the body and conform, most stylish bumpers I've seem to find for my 04 TJ

Personally I wouldn't trust a Shittybilt product for the rear bumper/tire carrier . . . a front bumper that just sits there, fine, but not a tire carrier. Shittybilt has a reputation for being cheap, made in china, crap. With all the issues people have with the tire carriers rattling, and worse, I'd save up a bit more and buy something from a company with a better reputation for quality such as RockHard or Warn. Just my .02

Just make sure whatever lights are mounted in the bumper are sealed.
I was gonna mount some lights on the bumper, but then thought about water crossings or deeper puddles causing problems (atleast with the lights I had on hand)

I bought my jeep used with the smittybilt src bumpers already on it and they are not a terrible bumper for the price. but as said above they do rattle quite a bit and the swingout hinges on them suck. From what I have seen the higher quality bumpers use a spindle with bearings as the hinge that can hold more weight and is a lot smoother and easier to swing out than the smittybilts. If your on a budget and cant wait to get bumpers they'll do the job but if you can hold out I would and get something a little better. I plan on replacing mine in the next year after I take care of a few other things on the jeep.

Check out Tomken. Good product at a good price. No rattles or looseness after 1000 miles off-road

the rampage bumper leaves a lot to be desired. I wouldn't call it junk but I've had to do a fair amount of work to it to make my GF happy with it on her jeep. The backup lights are sick though.

doesn't come with any bracing to keep it from tearing apart the rear x member. you have to put spacers in it to clear any king of corner armor. and the swivel is just a bolt that is wiggling now. A bolt holds the spare tire mount plate together and is not coated or painted when you get it..... and no mounts for Jerry cans.

But THE BACK UP LIGHTS ARE SICK!

I've heard good n bad things about Smitty products, So it is kinda hard to decide. As for looks, I think it looks alot better than the rockhard that's just simply a metal tube as the bumper. I'm looking for something more stylish, that's why Im deciding on this setup.

It's going to be 894 with free shipping to my doorstep, sounds like a good deal to me

can the latch or whatever rattles be replaced on the Smitty to be better?
Or any other bumpers that look as stylish a this setup?
I seen the highrock is a nice front but no matching rear with tire carrier (don't want the bolt into body tire carrier high rock offers)

I was going to go with the Smittybilt rear bumper/tire carrier once I get the money, they look good, but if it rattles.. you won't really hear it would you? since your IN the Jeep most of the time...? If so, just put something soft under it

just make sure when the tire is mounted everything is stable. MOST of the tire carriers shake really bad that i come across. mine does it on the freeway really bad. thats why i built my low profile carrier that doesnt move one bit. but its only good in the summer and for a 33 hahaha. i Have my LOD back on and i need to come up with a brace that keeps it from shaking.

I've yet to see a bumper mounted tire carrer I personally liked. Too much dependence on that on sole pivot point that rests on just one end of the bumper when it's open.

X10,000 on avoiding the Shittybilt products. They now generally, at least in my personal opinion, take a well built U.S. designed & built product and then reverse-engineer it in China and cheapen it in every conceivable and not-so-conceivable ways. I wouldn't touch one of their products any more.

What type of spare tire carrier do I like? Tub mounted. My tub-mounted Off-Road Fabricators spare tire and jerry can (two) holder has been on my TJ for 7-8 years now and it's as tight and rattle/sag-free as when it was brand new. What's its secret? It's not actually bolted to the tub itself, its mounting bolts actually only pass through the tub to hidden brackets behind the tub that are bolted to the rollbar bases. You don't get much more solid than the rollbar mounts. Even when open, it is supported at two points, one more than the others.

Check it out at OR-FAB Off-Road Products - Trail Tested Body Protection

I like that mount, but am looking to go with a front bumper matching set as well , so I'm looking into buying a combo so it will look great. The trails around here aren't really insane like I see in some pics, so the bumper isn't going to see harsh treatments.
I don't want to spend over 1000, 1200 would be max. That's why I seen the body armor special at 4wheelonline and also the "shittybilt". The shittybilt looks the best IMO but I'm tryin to find that happy medium between style and performance.. The age old question

What mount are you talking about? If you're referring to the Off-Road Fabricators spare tire carrier, it doesn't care what bumper you run since it doesn't even touch the bumper. You can buy any bumper you want if you go with the ORF spare tire carrier, not so with a bumper mounted carrier.
