Rear bumper/tire carrier

Anyone have any experience with this bumper from Rampage Products.

Rampage Products 76610 - Rampage Rear Recovery Bumper with Tire Swing for 87-06 Jeep® Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

I really need a rear bumper and tire carrier... if anyone has any they would recommend I'd love to hear it. I'm trying to keep it under $600.

I have actually read good things about e-autogrilles from ebay. they also have a web based store front, but there ebay prices are better for some reason.

I was always worried about those e-autogrilles....hmmm maybe ill look at them a little more closely.

As far as the dirtworx goes. they look pretty decent. I cant really tell from the pics whats going on with the latch that hooks the carrier to the bumper. I like the price though.

I can post some pics for you when I get mine if you want to see the latch.

Don't worry about them. I bought the front, back and tire carrier for 655 and free shipping. They are sturdy and well built. I took mine to a fab customer of mine (high end welding and fab) and he looked them over and said "although the welds are not of a quality I would do, there is nothing wrong with them." I looked at it this way, The money I saved will go towards high end drivetrain parts, like regearing, lockers and axels. These are areas I won't cheap out on. Bumpers? Their bumpers 3/16" steel and won't break and leave me stranded like an axel or driveline. One thing I will add, The latching mech on back is better built and designed than the Smittybilt. One of the guys I wheel with has his Smittybilt latch held closed with a velcro strap because it works loose. This one doesn't.

Dirtworx also does a bumper with a cargo rack, he doesn't have the pics on his site but sent these to me. I agree about the price though. I figure they're just bumpers and I can take the 500-600 I save and put to something else.

Did you order that bumper with the cargo rack? Interested to see how it is attached on there.

He has an ebay store. Or you can go to his website and email him from there. He responds very quick (usually within a couple hours or less during the day). Just google thedirtworx and both his site and ebay should pop up.

I haven't ordered that bumper yet. I asked a fabricator/welder at work about the sturdiness of it from the picture and he said that the steel square tubing is really sturdy. But I would be interested to know if it has any wobble when the load is out towards the edges.

Oh ok. Gotcha. Well I can let you know of the general sturdiness of the tire carrier in general when I get mine this weekend (hopefully it makes it from California to Mississippi in a week).

Man it may just be me, but that tire is up there. Maybe it just looks like that because it is small.

Dirtworx FTW

OP, I was in the exact same boat as you. I went with the swing away tire carrier/bumper and front bumper from Robert at Dirtworx. D-ring mounts and receiver hitch option on both. I can't say enough good things about them. Quality is outstanding, and Robert was a pleasure to deal with - he will customize your order to your specifics, just ask.

They don't come painted, but I cleaned with mineral spirits, primed with a self-etching primer and used Rustoleum bed liner in the spray can. Took my time and worked up through several light coats - you'd be hard pressed to tell it hasn't been powder coated.

I also thought the latch mechanism looked a little cheap in the pictures, but it actually works really well. I painted it as well with the black and it looks much better than the red handle/shiny combination.

So for anyone wondering about dirtworx tire carriers I got mine in this week here are some pics of it and the latch. I had him do a custom hi-lift jack mount at the bottom instead of at an angle on the swing out portion. Let me know if y'all have any questions.

I have the rampage, great rear bumper. lights are super bright. I have a 35 toyo open country MT on it and it doesn't sag or rock or shake. latch is really nice too. I do some towing and it is just fine.

QRC is almost identical to the Smittybilt SRC, which is also the same as the one on e-auto grilles for a fraction of the price. I was considering that one but the tire carrier seemed a little weak IMO.

For the OP, I actually got the same bumper combo as callbob has from e-auto grilles. To me it's the Smittybilt XRC at a fraction of the price. Tire carrier is sturdy and I had no problems putting it on, everything lined up great. I used the XRC instructions to get an idea of how to install but it was pretty straight forward. Tire Carrier is adjustable also if you want to move where the tire rides down. I have mine all the way up in the picture below. I'd recommend getting frame tie ins from GroundPounderFab if you plan on using the hitch receiver for anything. They're quality and he includes bolts with tabs welded to them to get up in the frame which was a huge plus.

AHHHHH - Just as I'm about to bite the bullet on a set of Smittybilt XRC front, rear w/ carrier, and rocker guards (for $1080 shipped) I find this post! Now I have some deciding to do as well!!! Does e-auto grilles offer a rocker guard set as well???
