Talking REAR Bumpers

Ok - enough threads on front bumpers, whachya got for the rears?

Looking into getting one. I have a Class1 hitch that I'm keeping and would like a rear without a hitch built in. I like the small tube look like my front. The factory Mopar Rock Crawler bumper is nice, but not for the $500 asking price.

Isn't the Garvin carrier like $700? Little too spendy for something I might toss later.

$ 700? No. It was actually twice that when I bought it a few years ago. You can buy the bumper alone and IIRC it's somewhere around the $ 350 - $ 400 range.

It's not tube and it has a 2" receiver capable of towing 2k (why not have that?). Less than $200 from JustJeeps in San Diego

True... and now that we don't have any more horses, I won't need to tow hay in from town.

SRC with tire carrier/2''receiver. Amazingly it's quite nice and 1/4'' thick lower steel bumper.

distorted, you ever hit your D-ring on drop offs? I'm always smacking mine. I think it may be saving my fuel tank from taking the hit.

Yep. Coming off on ledges and drops I've landed/smacked it. Never bent or moved the bumper. It has 4 backing plates...2 for each side of the frame channel, and frame tie-ins.

The bumper did come with crappy china'ish grade 5 bolts, but swapped all the hardware to grade 8 before installing it.

4point....

It does appear my receiver is higher up than yours a little. The receiver on the SRC is flush with the bottom of the bumper and doesn't hang down.

But yep, I've still landed on it.

Here is a little better picture from the smittybilt site ....

Distorted,

Have you had any issues with the tire carrier latch while driving? I have seen them come loose and the tire swing out when turning corners. For the price, nice bumper though.

Yeah, I mounted my receiver below the bumper. I've threatened to cut it off and relocate it every since I made it.

Never. It's quite tight and secure. Even i you would want to make it tighter all you have to do is change the spring out to a bigger or stronger one.

I run the SRC/RRC rear bumper without the hinge pin for the tire carrier. I "customized" it with a sawzall to remove the class 3 receiver and make the frame mounted hitch accessible. I have a rack that goes into the receiver and carries my dirt bike and also, my Unlimited can also tow my boat. I didn't trust the bumper mounted receivers to handle the weight, so I stayed with the frame mounted hitch. The bumper matches the ORF tire carrier really well too.

I'll try to take a better pic this weekend, but this will give you an idea:

Found some more info on the Trail-Gear tire carrier. It can be found for ~$230. THe only thing I really don't like about it is the hinge it pivots on is just a big bushing.

And I might need a body lift to clear the rear fender.

I love the body mounted tire carrier!

The SRC bumper hangs about as low as the trail gear one does. The bottom tube is at the same hight as the frame mounted hitch. Neither has ever gotten the way and I've never been hung up on it. It offers some added protection to the gas tank as well. there have been a few times when I've come down hard and the bumper and hitch have taken the hit instead of the tank skid.

the bushing being rubber? You can use metal or bronze sleeve since its more durable. Metal on metal shouldnt be a problem unless you never grease that thing and you open your tail gate couple times a day. It looks like a great match for your front bumper.
