Rear lights flush.

I konw the majority of you did not like the lights when I got them. They were to bling. I was going to paint them to match the jeep. But after seeing this done on a jeep in town, I decided not to. Didn't like it. So i decided to make them flush. I started one tonight. It's not totally finished yet, but you can get an idea. What do ya's think?

Hey Dave,

Just got your PM and found this post you were talking about.
I'm not to big on that style of light.
But remember, it's all just personal preference.
To each their own.
If you like it, THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS!
I have to say that I really like the way you chopped them though.
It gives them more of a flush mount look, and I really dig that!

These are the ones that I put on mine.
Just thought you'd like to see because our Sahara's are the same color.
I also noticed you put the Black Lenses on your front end, which I think look great!
I put the clear on mine. I like to see little differences like that.

P.S. Hope switching the polarity on those twist lock lights worked for ya, let me know.

I've been considering those. How does the brightness compare to stock at night for the brake and tail lights? Any issues w/ a different load due to being LED?

Highly likely that it's illegal.

Just FYI.

What's illegal? Not having a side reflector?

Reflex reflector and light. CFR 571.108.

These are bright LED Tails.
It's hard to say if they are brighter than your stock tails,
just because it is a completely different type of light IMO.
But I feel that they are every bit as bright, if not brighter.
I'm almost positive that you'd be satisfied with the purchase if you make it.

As far as the load:
These make your blinkers go like a bat out of hell.
So, you'll need to buy a new relay if you want to stop that.
I bought one, and didn't like it because there was a 1-1.5 second delay between the time you hit signal, and the time it starts flashing.
I took it out, I don't mind the lights blinking fast.

To my knowledge, these lights are DOT approved.
They actually have 3 LED's on the outer sides of them,
that can be seen from the left or right side.
Sorry, you can't see that in the photos.

As far as the the reflector,
the manufacturer provides you with DOT stickers to put on them,
so that you comply with applicable laws, if need be.

I didn't put the reflectors or the manufacturer's logo on mine
because they completely ruin the look of the tail lights.

But I can say this....
I've had Cops behind me at stop lights both in my area
of residence and in the City of Phoenix.
I've never had any problems or questions about these lights.
Highway patrol may be a different story.
They tend to be a bit more anal about regulations.

Cool about the LED's. I think a load equalizer instead of the relay will solve the double blink w/out causing a delay. Thanks, I'm really considering those.

Dave had mentioned to me earlier that he had seen some LED Tails that were Red, White, and Blue. Mine are just Red and White.
I'm not sure where he found those. I asked him to post the link.
I'd like to check them out. They sound pretty nice.

Check out Stu's webpage on this issue... for early model years there is a quick modification you can do to the relay that stops the fast flash. I did the mod to my relay after installing my LED tail lights and it worked well.

His webpage also gives info on a specific relay or two that should work without that delay some have encountered. Anyway, here's some good info...

Yeah, that's the exact same one I have in my 98.
It still causes a bit of a delay like I was describing.
I also read that thing about cutting the lead as well before.
I know it will stop the fast flash, but since I haven't tried it, I can't say that it will solve the delay or not. I didn't want to ruin my relay, just to find out that the delay was still there. That's the only reason I didn't try that.
I don't really mind the fast flash, it wakes me up when I fall alseep in traffic.

Thanks for trying Jerry,
good info as always.
