Rear Track Bar (Frame Side)

So my lift install is almost finished...one more bolt to put in.

Is there a trick to getting the rear track bar holes to align on the frame side?

Jeep is on the ground with the wheels on...was hoping it would realign itself, but it didn't.

You're going to either have to have someone push on the body or you're going to have to slide the axle over. The track bar is what aligns the axle with the body so if it's disconnected it's not going to automatically realign.

bounce it up and down. Jack it up a bit to line things up

With all 4 wheels on the ground, simply have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth till the hole lines up.
The body moves with the front wheels being turned.

Well, tried all those things and its partially through, but its angled a little to high to come through the other side...hmmmm.

Use a ratcheting strap (aka cargo strap) to pull it where it need to be. It shouldn't be that much of a struggle with that method.

You can get cargo straps at Wally World, or any McParts store.

Got a ratcheting strap in the garage. So, just hook one side to the axle and the other to where? The frame?

That's how I'd do it. Shouldn't take too much to make it happen, sounds like you're pretty close now.

Trying to get mine aligned today.....spent 3hrs trying to remove seized bolt...Grrrr. Anyway, had my 11yr old push with his back to the wall and put his two feet on the rear body and "rocked" the jeep until I was able to pop the bolt in.....

I hear ya on the bolts. Rear suspension was the worst on mine. If ratcheting doesn't work might pull it closer to the wall to get more leverage.

Ratcheting strap works like a charm. Aligns the bar pretty well.

So here's where I'm at. In the pic below you can see in the mirror that the bolt is almost all the way through but the hole toward this engine is misaligned.



If I align the hole toward the engine the hole toward the gas tank is off, and vice versa. Is the bushing inside the bar suppose to flex to align the holes correctly? Can't see how that would be possible to accomplish.

The axle side of the bar is connected to the OME relocation bracket if that makes any difference.

Just keep Wiggling the Body / Suspension in all Directions and you'll "get it". Lay Under the Jeep or be in a Position that you can Clearly See that Hole and have someone Start Moving the Jeep in all Directions and you'll See what way you gotta go to get the Hole to Line Up.

From the Looks of that, I'd say you gotta Jack Using the Frame on the Pass Side so that the Suspension Droops only on that Side.

If I ever have to remove/reinstall the rear trac bar, I always unbolt one of the rear upper control arms. That way you're not fighting the triangulation of the control arms. Usually makes things easier for me. That and a combination of jacking up/down one side of the axle and I've never had to use a ratchet strap.

Will give it a shot. We rocked it for a solid hour and never got the bolt to line up The frame side of the track bar isn't straight...its slightly angled...checked it against my old OEM track bar to verify. I gave up and just decided to get the bolt installed when I went to get an alignment done.

Seems like you'd still fight the triangulation of the the arms at some point though. Even if its to reattach the upper arm, but I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

Honestly, I've had better luck installing the frame side first; doing that allows you to jack the axle up and down to get the axle side of the trac bar installed. I've never had to use a ratchet strap doing that and a combination of the arm removal.

If it's actually an angle problem, as in the angle of the end of the trac bar won't let it go into the bracket I can't help you there. I have an adjustable trac bar so being at an angle isn't an issue.

Is the axle end of the trackbar tightened in the OME bracket, or is the bolt/nut still loose?

Making sure the axle end is attached, but still loose will give you some more movement.

Also, sometimes a combination of methods is required. I have had to use a ratchet strap to get it almost there, and then jacked up the driver's side to push it over just a little more.

99% of the time, I actually find it easiest to reconnect the trackbars with the tires off and the Jeep still on jack stands. You have a wider range of movement that way with less obstacles in the way. Once you get the bolts in and nut started, wait to tighten them until the Jeep is on its own weight.


Another option entirely is this....take a large screwdriver and push it between the top of the trackbar and the frame/mount. Work it up or down to align the holes.
If you can get it aligned just a hair more, a couple good whacks with a hammer will knock it through.

Even better is an alignment bar or if that's too long, a tapered punch. I have both and I use them a lot when I mating/aligning 2 holes .

100% agree; I just assumed it was common sense to have the Jeep on jack stands but I guess it should have been mentioned before. Definitely agree, it's much easier that way.

The OP said up top that he is doing this with the wheels on the ground. In fairness, most instructions suggest reconnecting trackbars and sway bars with the tires on the ground.
Personal experience says it is way easier to do on jackstands.

Got the bolt in finally, a few days ago.

Took the bar off and bolted the frame side up first, then used a ratchet strap to line the axle side up. Was much easier this way for some reason. Did it with the wheels on the ground
