Rear view mirror clip removal

Does anyone know an easy method for removing the interior rear view mirror mount? The piece glued to the windshield was installed upside down by the P.O. The mirror will not tighten. I turned it upside down and it tightens fine. I don't want to start messing with it and crack the glass. I'm sure there is an easy way. If not, it can stay on there like it is. I could mount it upside down in case I roll over some day!

An adjustable wrench on the flat sides of the mount, with the wrench flat against the windshield and twist. It should pop off. Intsall kits are at the parts store.
