Okay so i just bought my 97 Wrangler back from the local Copart lot. She was wrecked in Oct 2011. I have a lot of work to go on her. (see pics in profile). Any and all advise would be welcome. I would like to see it finished by spring.
pictures came in a bit small...only worry I see is the driver door seems out of wack, which means the tub is bent, you will almost have to start stripping it down, fenders hood driver suspension until you thing you are to the good stuff, then post some pic to see if that you have to work with is straight. also concerning is the front geometry has to be pretty spot on to get it to align and not death wobble, that axle and general area has all the steering components. If you are building for fun it can be done, if you are building for your first jeep it might be worth more parted out on here and investing in something less labor intensive, some of the work ahead of you is getting into the higher experience levels.
a wrecked in the rear or passenger side donor might be a good idea. You will run yourself crazy going after the little parts. And it gives a good reference as to compare to...obviously takes up some extra room that way but if you are wanting to be going by spring, you've got some long days ahead of you.
For me, I let it get towed away to COPART, you can find it online btw, but I had to go through a broker to bid on it. I knew it was my jeep I was buying back because the insurance company let me know where it was towed to and what they intended to do with it. If you want to buy one back from insurance, just check with your agent, mine was very helpful.
I like the look of the highline kit, but I am going back to stock body, going with a home made flat od green paint job and making her trail ready. I do have to figure out how to fix broken control arm hanger. ha ha ha!
