Recommended after market intake?

Hello all,

The jeep I bought had some aftermarket cheapy intake. Do you guys recommend one that works well and looks cool? O yea, that is affordable as well.

This air raid has an average price of 279 online. You guys think it's worth it?

i think i rather get suspension parts or upgrade sounds.. what do you look to get out it.. hp gains are 1 hp t most... i think it just makes noise.. just get a good filter like k&n for 40 bucks..

The only reason to get an intake kit IMO is if you get tube fenders and cannot use the stock intake box any more. Really a waist of $300 if its not needed.

I have one of the Airaids. Could not tell a bit of difference. Knowing what I know now, I would have stuck with the stock setup and paper filters. Paper filters I am told actually filter better than K&N or the likes.

got an air raid for 45 bucks didn't hurt the wallet too much so I bought it (new too ). no HP gains noticed but if your lookin for a good intake go with the AEM brute force I've heard good things about that one.

If you want to spend that kind of money imo go with a snorkel, never know when you wana ride thru a river.

I got a air raid off my brother-in-laws jeep I like it pure fact I sound like a race car and thats about it.

Now I dont have to make the vroom vroom sound my self when I hit the gas pedal. If I had to buy the air raid my self I wouldnt have wasted the money but it was free.

On the TJ, aftermarket air intakes are a complete absolute 100% total waste of $$$. Yes they can definitely help some vehicles, notably the Corvette, Mustang, Z28, etc. because they come from the factory with restrictive air intakes. The Jeep was designed to have a totally non-restrictive air intake and that's what the TJ has which is why they don't help in the least. In fact most of them cause more problems because they also let more fine dust particulates (like silica) in through their coarser air filters.

Aftermarket air intakes fool a lot of people into thinking their engines perform better, afterall they are louder, but that's really a placebo effect. Spend your hard-earned $$$ on something that will really do something for you Jeep like for the suspension, a hand throttle, Currie Antirock, etc.

I have to disagree, I could actually feel a huge difference in acceleration when I put mine on(cheapo ebay one), I would never go back. Plus it sounds sexy, and gave me better gas millage when I wasn't heavy on the gas to hear that nice deep intake sound.

Agreed.

Jerry, I do agree though. I bought a cheapy Auto Zone one for 20 bucks. Engine bay looks sweet, engine sounds sweet, and my acceleration is better; no joke.
