rectangular taillights

i was just wondering, how come most if not all of the jeeps i see around my area have round taillights, or the tall square lights. mine is a 98 and its a rectangle

its longer than it is tall.

my carfax stated that it is a 98.

the taillight seem stock and its flush to the panels.

i cant seem to find a picture on google and i dont have the jeep with me to post pics.

but why would anyone go thru the trouble of custom mounting a different shape taillights when there is no other work done on the jeep?

Don't know man, but I am looking forward to the pics. I'm interested in seeing this too. I'm sure someone will be able to shed brighter light on it.

Oh, well that is interesting. You say you don't have other work done on your Jeep but it looks like you have a lift, bigger tires, and black rims.

Do you have reverse lights?

Is that at your work? A car lift and all those tools? You will be having some fun customizing your Jeep and actually have the right tools to do it!

Why stock, those are an upgrade. Just add some reverse light if you have to.

Leave them, they look better that way. Then 2- if you want to go back too stock would not be a good idea since you would have to figure out how to fill in those holes and all of the fun-ness there.

You'd almost have to get some corner armor to to cover the hole to go back to stock. You have options though, they make LED versions of those that look great.

Just ran across these the other day, I think they look awesome.....

I definately don't think of those as an upgrade unless they're LED's.

I'd put in a lamp like that with high quality (bright) LED's if it was my rig. As far as reverse light(s), I'd mount some low profile LED fog type lights on either side of the hitch receiver (so they're slighly protected) and wire them to the reverse light circuit. If you plan to do any wheeling other than mud where they may get damaged, then I'd put them on the topside of the bumper. There's a ton of mounting options. Good luck.
