Reducing wheel width

This might be a dumb question, but humor me....

If I'm currently running 33's on 15x10's, will I gain more sidewall by reducing to a 15x8 wheel? Also, will this reduction help reduce the "balloon look" I currently have?

I understand the 8" wheels are better for the bead when you air down...

yes, 8" work and look better as you describe. But regardless, the "balloon look" is way better than a "pizza cutter" look!

If you go 2" narrower on The wheel it's going too make it look even worse. Iwouldn't ever run a 15.5" tire on a wheel as narrow as 8". It will make it more unstable when cornering & you well get a lot of push through.

You will be fine with a 8" rim. Make sure back spacing is correct though. I think its 3.75 or " 4. People run 7" rims with 12.5 tires

A 15X8 wheel size is ideal for offroading with your 33x12.50 tires. That width is very helpful for helping to keep the tire safely seated on the wheel when you air down for offroading. For backspacing, 4" to 4.25" is ideal, with 3.75" to 4.5" very doable.
When you have a choice, buy American.

vwlos.... I'm with you. I'm looking to sell my 15x10 rims and go down to the 8" rims. I'm also running 33" 12.50X15 tires.
