Regear opinions needed please!

Here is what I have. 98TJ, 5 speed, 4.0, stock suspension rolling on 31-10.50 BFG MT's stock 3.07 gears in D30 and D35's.

My plans 2.5 lift, tube fenders and 33-10.50 or 33-12.50

This is my DD and hunting rig with light wheeling on the side. I am looking at 4.10 gears but am also thinking 4.56 would be nice to. This is my first TJ. I have always had CJ's in the past. MPG is not an issue if it was I would be tooling around in a miata......

You TJ guy's help me out......

For a daily driver I'd be going with 4.10's, 4.56's would be good if it only saw dirt. Other wise on the highway the RPM's will be quite high. If you were planning on running 35's I'd go with the 4.56's.

Your 5 speed will like the 4.56. My 3 speed auto likes the 4.10.

For 33" tires, 4.0L, and 5-speed, go right to 4.56... whether your Jeep is a pure street Jeep or if it likes to go offroad. Years back I made the mistake of ignoring the advice of my more experienced buddies who all recommended 4.56 and instead thought I would take the more "conservative" route by going with 4.10 gearing after I installed 33" tires. Within a few days, I knew I had made a big mistake by not having gone with 4.56. It had to be downshifted WAY more often than I liked just to make it up minor grades since the RPMs were a tad too low with 4.10.

Go 4.56, 4.10 would be a mistake for 33" tires with your engine and transmission combination.
