Yes there are many advantages:
1-2lb lb weight reduction and also now you can unload passengers when they hit their heads since then they become useless. :rofl:
If its a TJ with a stock rollbar then no, it wont slide off, theres another torx security bolt under the padding that you will have to remove and its just more of a pain in the arse, if you dont have the security Bit.
i guess this is not the same with some jeeps but the covers on the padding on my 04 has zippers to take it off the bar. and the padding just slips right off after that.
im putting the top on tommorow though for the winter (or at least until it gets watm again, so il wait to next year, but it looks realy good
