I'm thinking about taking the padding off of the roll bars/cage on my 04 TJ.
It's seems too bulky and I was just wondering how it would look. I'm not sure how it will look where the seatbelts connect to the bars.
Has anybody done this and do you like the way it looks?
I'm gonna take out the two overhead sound boxes/pods.

My plan was to remove my padding when I added onto the cage, but when I pulled the pads on my 06 only the parts that show are painted and the rest is primer... cheap ass Crysler. You might be okay with an 04, but check it out first. I like the look better without the pads, but having them in the area where your head might swing during a roll over isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Bite the hand that feeds you . . . you've had more than enough to eat already.
I have a friend at work that pulled all the padding off his '02. Personally, I think it looks like crap. The rear section looks OK without the padding, but the vertical section of the roll bar in the middle (where the driver seatbelt hooks up) has all kinds of bends and indentations for factory mounting. Then the cross bars from the windshield frame to the roll bar are not very good looking either. He also pulled the padding off the sound bar, then a couple days later he put that bit back on. Not even he could stand the look of the naked sound bar.
i don't like how the 03-06 roll bar pads are so bulky either. i was thinking about doing that a while ago, but never did. that may be a plan for me for the warmer months. i did a search on google and found some pics of a 05 tj w/o the pads. it looks good imo.
I removed my padding and soundbar on my 98 sport,I like that classic look but I dont care for the exposed pipe where the slip in joints are
Without the soundbar the radio is useless though..... well it is with a well worn soft top
im gonna need some pics sonofabeach, been thinking about doing this for my 04 as well

I pulled all my padding off and at least to me, I think it looks a lot better and cleaner too.
To be correct, I should have said I pulled all the old OE padding off but installed rubber pipe insulation around the rollcage tubing where I sit. I've cracked my head against even the OE padding and saw stars. I would not run without some form of decent padding on the rollcage anywhere around where people sit.
