removing the valve cover - 2003 TJ

So I went to remove the valve cover yesterday....I got all of the bolts off except for the very back one. There is a plastic piece at the very back (by the firewall) that attaches to a threaded bolt on either side of the valve cover. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it off. It was bolted down on the passenger side...easy enough. There wasn't a bolt on the driver's side and I couldn't just lift it off. I attempted to "persuade" it off, but then thought better of that idea, as I didn't want to break it.

Anyone have any idea how to get that off? The last valve cover bolt is right behind it. Also - how do you disconnect those two lines that lead into the cover itself (one from the air tube and one closer to the firewall)?

This is all part of my project to figure out where the annoying ticking is coming from....there are no visible exhaust manifold cracks that I can see, but I still think it's the manifold. but I thought I'd make sure it wasn't anything else before I got too far into that. I used the old "shadetree stethescope" method and nothing jumped out at me as sounding strange under the valve cover, but I thought I'd pull it just to make sure.

I see this is a really old post, but I'm wanting to change my valve cover out so I've been studying. My '03 TJ ticks when cold until it warms up, too. Always thought it was just cold valves knocking. I'm looking for either a chrome, brushed aluminum, or silverish valve cover to replace the black one soon.
