Talking Repair update

12/29/08 (approx. 9:20am cst)
Called earlier in the week last week to confirm the appointment and to let them know that the front window seal/gasket was falling out of the windshield. They repaired the window seal (this is good)& the links in the rear position. Dealer assured me he thought that this would probably not solve the issue with the popping/snapping.
12/20/08
Went out back to the garage today and lifted "silver" onto stands and checked rear brakes...there in great shape.
Pulled the entire rear drive shaft and put in 2 new premium U-joints....Still get popping/snapping noise in drive train. Same as b4...put it in 1st gear and step on gas and it snap/pop...put it in reverse step on gas pop/snap some times as many as 3 snap/pop sounds in a row.

I gave up on the dealer replacing any joints or looking into this noise as they were going to charge $83-100 per hour. Go figure thought the war'nt covered drive train?

OK gent/etts
Where to look now?

Tenatively planning on replacing the front driveshaft U-joints as weather permitts (3 total)....then check over the entire front end for any wierd anomalies.

The only other thing it could be...may be inside the trans / clutch assemb.???
Which dealer just had out at 15700 miles to replace entire clutch and fly assembly via tsb...

What else to look 4?

Any good tips on front shaft removal?

C.

Where and how to check this mount?

Actually on the 2006 model there is only bolts nearest the 3rd mem....the other end you have to pop out clips and beat it to death to remove it!

Don't have to beat it to death. A rubber mallet works fine.

The mount is under the transmission and bolted to the big'ol' skid plate in the middle of the jeep.

Hmmmm!
Distortedtj....Would this mount when 1st showing signs of trouble possibly allow for execessive squeak and rubbery bushing eak'n kinda sound?

Also for the back U-joint nearest the trans had to tourch and beat it just to get it out. The salt and snow here in WI does horrible things to the joints. LOL!

Trip...
As a matter of fact it pops/snaps in HI/Low 4WD also. In the drive through tonight with the window rolled down and radio off I could hear it amplified from the building reveberating the sound back. When I went over a rough stretch of the drive-n parking area it made the noise very distincly. It was full in gear and moving at a snails pace in normal 2WD.
