Question Replace-A-Top?

Okay, I have given myself a hernia trying to get my tattered top back together for the last time! I was online looking at the replacement tops they offer....any advice, recommendations or suggestions???
Best Top (a little pricey)
Pavement End
Rugged Ridge
Heard of any of these? Any knowledge about function, quality, etc....help me please!!
Oh yeah, and my header bar is broken....

Just finished reading a post at another forum and the op had many difficulties with the pav ends product with the sun rier option. RR have not read much about yet. Bestop seems to get lots of cudos.

My next one is going to be Bestop sailcloth replace-a-top. Seems to be the best one for the price. The people I have quizzed about the other options say they aren't as good, but I have no personal experience with them.

I'll bet you, if you buy a bestop you will never say, "I wish I had bought that cheaper top" I also would be willing to bet that if you buy a "cheap" top you will say "Darn, I wish I had spent a little more and got a good top."

I only buy bestop. I have a full soft top with tinted windows, bikini, windjammer and duster and I ordered a trail cover today. All Bestop!

The '06 X came with the sail cloth, very nice. My bro has a '99
and it has the previous style top and it is pretty decent too.

I have a '99 and my top has been stiched every summer for the last 3 years. It's finally gotten so tight I can't get the zippers on the back windows closed with out ripping at the seams. The front where the plastic inserts snap into the door jams has had it too, a really bad wear point. It got into the 50's last night where it had been in the 80's all week and I could not make it stretch to fit! It's too tight to mess with in cooler temps anymore! I'm leaning towards Best Top after all the feedback I've gotten here and elsewhere, I just hate to part with that much money on something that's not a mod! Visions of wenches and bushwacker flares are dancing in my head!

wenches dancing in your head?

Regardless, the replace a top is a great mod, esp for the 99's. 97-99 IIRC used the thinner single-ply fabric. The newer TJ's have the sailcloth. Much thicker and quieter.

My 97 had fabric so thin, I could literally see the sun through the fabric threads. I have the sailcloth on there now. You should be able to use the OEM hardware, so it is cheaper that way. BTW, I've seen SEVERAL tops for TJ's for sale recently on ebay, all sailcloth from newer TJ's... you may save some $$ that way.

get a viking fastback top if you want to do a new top that's different. If not, get the bestop or you'll kick yourself later.
