My cheap new high mileage TJ has 4 rusty body mounts that I want to repair.
I am considering bolting all the way through and using steel reinforcements both within the tub and just over the bushings (to "sandwich" the tub floor for a safe solid mount at minimal expense and no welding). Has anyone done this am I going to experience any problems I'm not seeing (other than by having bolt heads and metal plates showing on the interior floor)?
Alternatively, in searching for repair threads, I've not seen these mentioned: Classic Enterprises - Restoration, Reproduction Parts for Studebaker, Jeep & Ford
They ave available in both steel (for welding) and galvanized for screwing/riveting/bolting. Has anyone used these? Can they be used over the rusty rails or do the old rails have to come off?
(Not really worrying about devaluing my Jeep by not repairing this "correctly"... just want to do it cheaply/safely and my welding skills are minimal)
