replacing factory cd player on a 2000 sport

I was using the search function & found reference to a sticky about removing the factory cd player but didn't see the sticky.

Mine has been broken for years but I was told by Best Buy dudes in the past that they can't get them out without damaging dashboard? Would love to put something in with an input for a aux line (ipod/iphone)?

Help & stereo suggestions welcome!!!!
Thx!

Idk about '00's but it's not hard on '01's.... I don't think there's any difference between them, but not sure. Lemme see if I can find the thread...

Edit: Here's the thread...Installing aftermarket Radio in TJ write up

I certainly wouldn't let the "Best Buy dudes" touch my Jeep after what they said. It really isn't difficult at all getting it out or putting in a new one. You can get good factory type takeouts pretty cheap on ebay.

First, if you dont have an aftermarket install kit get one for your year and model wrangler. Also to make it easier, get a hold of a wiring adapter they too are vehicle specific and make it a hell of a lot easier to reinstall the stock one if you ever sell (lets hope you dont ) So assuming you have taken the aftermarket wiring kit and spliced the wire leads for the new head unit with it lets get onto removing the stock unit.

First, you need to remove the defroster vent. Take a flat head of or if your worried about scratching it use a plastic narrow puddy knife and start working the vent of starting on the passenger side. Its only held in by snap pins so dont worry about finding screws.

Second, locate the 3 screws that hold the center piece on. Two of them are on top and one you have to remove the ashtray to get too.

Now with all the screws out begin popping the center panel off. The panel that hold the fog light switches is a seperate deal so dont be allarmed when it doesnt come with it.

So from this point on it should be a straight forward install
Sorry if im wordy, its late and im beat lol its all fresh in my head because i just changed out my one aftermarket head unit for an upgrade the girlfriend got me for Christmas
