Replacing Headlight Pull Switch

I just got a new headlight switch for my 2000 TJ. The only problem is, I don't know how to remove the plunger from the old switch box and install it into the new one. I'm running my headlights from a seperate auxillary switch because the contacts in the old on wore out. I can't seem to find instructions anywhere. Can anyone help?

The '00 has a pull-out headlight switch like my '97 does? Anyway, I replaced mine years ago but the new switch came complete and ready to plug in, the shaft on the knob was already installed in the new switch. Am I misunderstanding what you're asking about?

Yes we have the same switch. Well, the switch I bought did not come with the plunger part installed, and besides I can't remove the old switch from the jeep because the metal bracket holding it in is sandwiched between the non-removable plunger and the switch itself. I thought about just cutting it out.
