Replacing Idler pulleys

Hello,

1997 Jeep Wrangler, 4.0 I6 with out A/C(from the factory) and 5-speed transmission. Manual belt tensioner

The idler pulley where the A/C unit would go has a little bit of play in it and I would like to replace it. There seems to be way to many different pulley's on the market. Does anyone have a specific part number?

The Belt tensioner has ALOT of play and I need to replace it. Would this be the same as the idler pulley? I keep seeing adjustable and non-adjustable pulleys, i would assume the belt tensioner is the adjustable type.

Thanks!

Bump: And does anyone have a brand they prefer? I imagine its pretty simple, just plastic with a bearing in it.

I have used two Idler Pulleys, albeit on different TJs; a Crown (Part 4792112) and a Dorman (Part 419-602). Both are fine although I thought the Dorman brand was of slightly better quality. That said, both are made in China and I wouldn't be surprised if they were manufactured in the same factory!

Yes the belt tensioner is adjustable, hence it's name.

Thanks for the recommendations! I roughly measured the diameters of the idler pulleys. The one where the AC would go is roughly 3 inches, and the tensioner is roughly 3.5 inches. I guess that would answer my own question of if I can buy two of the same size pulleys.

I had the tensioner go bad on my 97, took it off and went to O'Reilys for a replacement. Glad I did as the one they had listed was the wrong size so I just matched it up with one the right size. Ran about $16.

I've learned that you call them by adjustable and non adjustable or O'Reilys folks get confused.

if you say Idler pulley and tensioner pulley you get a (o_O) look. And even then like Doc said, don't guarantee you get the right one.
