Replacing Soft Top: Tan or Spice

The title says it all. A picture is below - I want to replace it with the exact match...I just don't know if it is Tan or Spice. I am going for the Bestop replace-a-top that I found for $420 shipped to my door at Jeep Top Depot.

Thanks!

This is really hard to do online. For exact match, local authorized dealers should have our swatch books lying around.

This is spice:

This is dark tan:

This is Khaki:

Geoff - thanks. Any idea what color the Jeep came with from the factory? It is a '97 Sport.

Or, can you tell me a little more detail on the colors? Like, does Spice have any hint of green in it? Based on your pictures below I think I should go with Spice...but I am not 100% confident in that decision.

We're trying to paint our house right now, and my wife is driving me ape-s%^t with questions like that: "does this have a hint of green in it." I'm not color blind, but I might be tone deaf. Or tint blind. Or something.

Inferno Girl, where are you?

No sweat Geoff. I hear you. I am having a hard time making a decision without seeing the colors in person...but I want to make a move soon as I have found a great deal on a site called Jeep Top Depot.

I asked about the "hint of green" because I saw a picture online that made me think that is how "spice" differed from the Tan.

Well, my padding is black...so Spice is the way to go, huh? I would agree based on the swatches posted above. I am also struggling to decide if I should even replace it since the top will almost always be down. I just bought this jeep though and am trying to clean everything up (seats, top, etc) and do some maintenance before the accessorizing starts.

'97 would have been spice. Dark tan came out in '99, Dark Khaki in '03.

Alright - we have two votes for Spice. I actually considered changing the top to black but I really like the green/tan combo. In fact, I am considering changing the roll-bar pads to tan (I mean Spice) to match.

I like the tan colors with green better than black too. My prefs are; Dark Tan, Khaki, Black, then Spice. But if you already have a bunch of Spice in the interior, I'd just go with it.

Funny - the Uhaul guy was helping me hook up the straps that go over the front tires. He said "man these are some big 'ol tires - the straps barely fit!" I am thinking to myself...just wait a few months and I will show you what big tires really look like!

I have the same color 97 model and love my new black top with tinted windows. But hey, it's your rig. Whatever you choose will be right.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I just ordered a Bestop Replace-A-Top with tinted windows in Spice. I ordered it from www.jeeptopdepot.com - I found the best price there. After a $50 mail-in-rebate, free shipping, and an instant online rebate, I paid $461 after tax. Not too bad seeing as how I found prices a lot higher than that elsewhere.

I should be busy over the coming days...this new top and seat covers are on the way. Then comes the tires, wheels, and lift. :-)

That rebate is direct from us and just started today. Make sure you stop by bestop.com and get the form to fill out, and read what else it tells you to save (receipt, UPC code, etc.). JeepTopDepot is great, but they may not be up-to-speed on a promotion that just started today, so they may not automatically send you the forms.

Seadoons,

Any pictures of the girl now with the new top? Would like to see the seat covers as well.

Thanks!

X2 on this post here. I went from spice hardtop to black softtop with the tinted windows and it looks great. My wrangler is green too. Got my top for two hundred bucks shipped to the door from eBay.

Got the spice cover installed last night. These pictures aren't the best (it was dark) but I think it turned out well. It was a pain in the *ss to install the soft top uppers. And I had to really strech the top fabric to get the back corners to hook up.

Thanks again for the advice:

I used a shoehorn to get my skins on my door frames. Glad you got them on!

I have a green 97 and it had the tan/spice top. I hated it. Granted, it was old, worn, and exposed to a LOT of high desert heat and sun. I ditched it and went to black. Much easier to deal with hehe.

When I got it:

Now:

It still has the spice interior, but even that I've considered changing with a paint job. Spice carpet was replaced with black carpet, then Monstaliner, but the dash and doors are all spice. Original seat covers were spice/tan/black, but the current covers are only black.

The spice dash DOES hide dirt/dust better though.
