99 tj 4.0 - after a wreck i replaced the intake manifold, gasket, fuel pump and radiator. Now it fires up but revvs all the way up. All vac hoses are where they were as well as electrical connections and injector positions. Am i missing something? Am i chasing something else that got damaged but i just cant see it? Everything i think i know points to vacuum but everything looks ok on the surface. Any help would go far to help a stranded jeeper with a hurricane hitting tonight.
Check the throttle body? Perhaps something is stuck or bent, or maybe some debris in it when you removed the intake manifold? When I replaced my headgasket a bit of something somehow got in and the engine revved, although not all the way up
OK could the impact of the accident damage the TPS? If so I'll check that first. Otherwise, am I going to have to bite the bullet and take it all apart again?
The intake manifold is leaking air into the engine because it was not properly positioned on the head. There are two small short positioning studs on the head the intake has to be properly positioned over before it will seat properly. When it leaks air from there it is like you are holding the throttle valve plate wide open. Do NOT simply try to tighten the bolts more.
I know about the 2 studs but at this point I'll believe it. The brake booster hose is connected. Thanks again to all the replies. I'm gonna go take it all apart.
You guys nailed it once again. Intake wasn't seated properly. Thanks for the help.
