Rims and tires for a new tj owner

I just bought a 2005 Wrangler. The rims are 15's and i want to add the largest and widest tire to the rim. Currently i have 225 r75 r15 size tires on the rims. I am trying to do this the cheapest way possible, b/c I only get to drive it in town and every now and then on trails. I want a good tire to go on the rims that will make it look good and not sacrifice too much. And with the larger tires, how much of a lift should i get? Thanks for anything!

2" coil spacers and 31" BFG all terrains. wont need shocks or regearing. Thats about the cheapest.

i went the same way for now.. with stock wheels I got 32'' with a 2'' bb lift.. it will rub a bit when you turn all the way.. just add a few washers on the stop points on the front hubs abd you will be fine.. of course I would like some wheels and a 3'' full lift, later down the line..

i'd go w/ 2" bb and 32s and if you need some more flex go w/ another inch of bl.

usually when people go w/ 31s they end up wanting bigger a month later...

i ran stock with 31s... rubbed on some sharp turns.. never really had any problems on trails.. but driving places i shouldn't got me stuck a few times..

if you want to go a cheap way and get nice clearance.. a 1.25'' jks bl and 1''mml and you'll be able to run 31s with ease..

as far as backspacing goes on the stock rims.. they were fine running 31x10.5 fine on a stock suspension.. you can go wider with some cheap steel rims or some wheel spacers.. either will run about the same price..

if you plan on stepping up to 33s.. all you would have to do is add a 2'' bb on down the road =p (if you want to spend a little extra money.. the ome lifts from dpg are nice)

BPOA,

Do you have any pics of your jeep that i could see with the bb and 32's? Thanks everyone for your advice.

Also, is the coil spring lift a better option than the bb?

yes.. with new coils you'll have more flex.. the bb is just a spacer that pushes your stock coil down..

it depends too.. i got a procomp 2'' coil lift.. the coils aren't soo bad except the front is a little low.. which can be fixed by some spacers in the front.. i run like 1.5 '' spacers in the front and 1'' in the rear.. the shocks however aren't soo good..

i recommend ome shocks if you change your stock ones..

(this is the nicest kit for a small suspension lift.. if you want a well built dd.. this is the way to go.. you can add to it on down the road.. 650 from dpgoffroad.com i believe)

rusty's offroad also has a 2'' lift thats basically a higher quality procomp lift
http://rustysoffroad.com/mm5/merchan...ode=sus_tj_kit

rusty's has a 3'' basic lift also

it also depends.. if you get a 2'' bb now.. you can always keep it and add 2'' coils to it..

vice versa with a lift.. you can always add a bb to it..

thats with the 2'' coils and 1'' bb.. no bodylift with 33x12.5 mts

(total i think i only netted about 2.75'' of lift with the route i went.. but i have added a bl since)

I went with a True 2 spacer lift and 32 x 11.5 BFG All Terrains. I needed new tires and didn't want to stick with the 30 x 9.5", but couldn't afford the Old Man Emu lift I wanted. I kept my stock Ravines (I like them) and went with 1.25" SpyderTrax wheel spacers. Has worked fine for a year. Old Man Emu springs and shocks just arrived yesterday. Will make the swap next weekend.

Thanks for all the advice, but there is one question that i don't know if anyone answered. what is the widest tire that can go on a 15" wheel? It's the 5 star wheel that comes with the wrangler x 2005. Sorry, but i don't know much about cars and i'm trying to get the most information possible. Thanks

i ran 10.5 on stock rims and stock suspension..

you can get wheel spacers for like 100 for a set of 4 cheap ones or 200 for a nice set of 2 spidertrax spacers which will set your tires out atleast an 1''.. they have 1.25'' and 1.5'' wheel spacers too.. (i recommend getting some different rims than to get wheel spacers, you can get steelies for like $40 a piece and free shipping)

its not the rim size that you base your tire width on.. its the backspacing..

i run 33x12.5'' tires.. my gf runs 35x13.5'' tires on 15x8'' rims each have different than stock backspacing

I think that i'm going with the procomp 2'' coil lift and spacers that you suggested, and i'm looking around for some rims on ebay or locally. I think that i'm going to chrome it out! Side step and all! It'll be a little more expensive, but i'm game....one step at a time. I'll do each step and post the pics. Thanks

i don't know about coil lift AND spacers...if you do both you start needing other things like adjustable trackbars or at least track bar brackets...plus a bigger tcase drop.

I'd like to know this too. I have a 2005 Wrangler w/ stock 15 and 7" rims and want to get the BFG ALL-TERRAIN T/A KO. I am considering either the
LT235/R15/C that will fit on 6 to 7 inch rims or the 30X9.50R15/C's which BFG's site says will fit on 6.5 to 8.5 inch rims. 6th gear is almost useless now with my P215/75R's because my year changed at mid year to 3.73's instead of the 4.11's so I don't want to get anything much taller. I've had these tires on my Tundra for years and they are a great tire. My Goodyears tires are all dry rotted already. Thanks

I see somebody used the search...

anyway on a 7" wide rim I would not go over a 10.50" wide tire. That and the back spacing on the stock rims tuck in close to the jeep, so anything wider and you might get some unwanted rubbing at full turn.
