Ripped the seats off the mount!

Since this is my first Jeep, and I have only had it a few days, I have to ask if this is common.

I bought the Jeep knowing the driver's seat rocked back and forth. Thought it was a broken seat bracket, but when I took her out... I found the metal of the seat actually ripped from the bottom.

Do I need a new seat, or do you think a novice could try to weld another piece in there.

-Cheers,

Jim

I guess you could weld it but for something like that it better be a good weld. I have a drivers front seat that you can have. How far are you from Hartford ct or westerly RI? I'm at both locations often. The only thing wrong is the normal rip in the middle side of the seat.

That would be awesome! I appreciate the offer very much. I might be able to get down to CT in a couple weeks, if that's OK with you. Out of curiosity, is it had to remove the seat covers, and re-skin? I ask, because my seat fabric is in good condition, and I wouldn't mind recovering your seat bottom....if that makes sense. Thanks again for the offer. I will take you up on it.

-Cheers,

Jim

I don't know how hard it is but I have seen it done on TV. I think one of those car shows did one once or maybe trucks. From what I remember it looked pretty straight forward. M I was going to do that too but I found a nice racing seat for 200 bucks. Plus I didn't feel like changing all my vital to cloth which I'm sure is much better. Just let me know when it gets closer and we will exchange numbers before hand and work it out.

I sent you a PM about getting together. Thanks again. I can't drive without a seat!

Well, while I was waiting for a used seat pan to come up for sale (at a reasonable price), I decided to practice with the little HF MIG welder my wife got me last Christmas.
I must say, it was addictive, and after a couple nights, I had my broken seat pan back together, and gusseted for added strength. The welds are pretty sloppy, but I am improving!

I sanded her down and gave her a fresh coat of paint before I reinstall. At the least, this will give me some time to look for a deal on a used seat.

-Cheers,

Jim
