Road signs????

A buddy of mine has some old road signs in his garage. Do you guys think tese would work to custom fab som skid plates? What kind of metal are they made out of and can they be welded. I have access to a blaster so they will/can be taken to the base metal.....

Tried to make a seat pan for a bike with a stop sign. Had the tig welder on it's lowest setting. Blew a hole in the sign the size of a golf ball. They seem to be made of real poor alloy and dung.

The signs are probably aluminum and can be welded with the proper welder but they would be to soft for skid plates. They would get ripped on the first good rock.

If you use one for anything, make sure you remove all the lettering and whatnot. Even though they're old, getting caught with road signs can cause headaches.
