Just saw the flip down tailgate in the Rokmen newsletter. It looks pretty nifty. But is it really 500$ worth of nifty? Am I missing something or should ashethic mods like this just not be that expensive?

For this one, I actually have to say $450 seems to be a reasonable price. It wouldn't be for the Poison Spyder tailgate, but this Rokmen is more than that.
This one incorporates some pretty sweet features. The 'slam-shut' latches are a plus, but the storage compartment is the money.

Drop Down Aluminum Tailgate w/Storage Compartment#

For a fair comparison, the PSC tailgate is $370, but is basically just an aluminum shell with a more involved latch system (not a good thing).

I would say YES, it's worth it also. Aluminum, easy close & open. I like it!

Seems like it would be worth every penny. As long as the fit is good, and with Rokmen it usually is, seems like the storage would be great!

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

When I first found it was was thinking 500? No way in hell... Then I saw the compartments and it almost changed my mind.

For those with more knowledge than me. How much would this tailgate cost in product? About How much would this amount of aluminum cost?

The cost for raw materials would not be too bad, but the time to form, weld and finish, plus the R&D is part of what you pay for when you buy ANY product.

Worth every penny IMO. It's meant for people who have corner armor and would need tailgate protection. With this you get a whole new tailgate made out of aluminum, is a flip down, and has storage that is very secure.

I've gone through two tailgates. My OEM one got eaten up by one of those stupid tailgate racks, the "new" one was a 60$ craigslist one that is straight, but just doesn't fit the same. This is def. going on my list. Plus I can go drive down to pick it up, no shipping costs.

Got wind of this from Dave and got excited, what is shown was even better then he described it.

Worth it, yes.

I understand. I just think that (though it is Rokmen and I love their work) it could be effectively sold at 350-400 to the door. Perhaps they did factor to the lowest cost possible, but I think were paying for the name here. I would love to have this thing but flat can't afford it with the other pieces I need to buy. (8 Rokmen arms front springs up armor and cv shaft)

It also will work with your hardtop!

Here is another picture of it...
ROKMEN you ROCK!!!! I love your stuff!

This is them with 750#'s on it....like you will ever have that much on it....

That thing looks awesome, my tailgate hinges are rusted and the tailgate bounces, super annoying. I might just save up for this instead!

It looks nice but for $450 you would think they could have come up with a single latch handle instead of one on each side, and a pair of hinges that dont look like they were bought at a local hardware store.

Wow, that sucks, I have never bought anything from rokmen but I thought they had a good reputation. Did they take the arms back?

Wow...just the opposite of the experiences that I have ever had. Heck I have called and talked with them on the phone and asked them their opinion on parts they don't even carry. Rokmen is top notch in my book. Solman...don't base your opinion off of one persons experience. With any company there will always be an unsatisfied customer....just look at all the rave reviews that Rokmen gets compared to this ONE.

I have their front bumper, their corner armor, and this tailgate on order and will be getting the majority of my parts for the rest of my upgrades from them...sliders, arms, etc...

I agree with ^

Every company has problems, even Currie, Savvy and everyone else.

Dont sway your opinion if you havent seen their products or talked to them. I think they are a pretty great shop. To the guy that had beat up arms...

Got any pictures?

For real though. I want pics of your busted arms. Cuz I know they wouldn't ship them like that and I don't know if it's possible to destroy those in shipping. They're pretty tough.

An old CJ tail gate isn't the right size...You could just order a fold-down hinge kit for yer TJ 'gate...

I agree those are beat up, but those look like tooling marks, not wheeling scratches. And the grease fittings could have been beaten up by shipping.

No doubt im sorry for your bad experience with them. I have had nothing but good.
