Roll Bar Covers

I'm thinking about buying new rollbar covers because my current ones are very faded (purple looking). I thought about painting them, but the ones I have now tend to get bunched up and wrinkled on the back rollbar where the bends are. Is there a solution for this? Or is this normal?

If replacing them is the better option does anybody have experience with the various aftermarket covers/pads? I'm mainly looking at the bestop and the rampage brands.

Thanks!

I would give them a good washing and paint them with the Duplicolor fabric paint. You might be surprised at how well they come out.

Black dye.

Fabric dye is not hard to find and it's cheap. I have dyed faded black clothes many times. I haven't tried it on my roll bar covers but I am going to this winter.

You do it in your washing machine so make sure you run a couple empty loads when you're done. Then wash jeans. If you don't when you wash whites they come out gray. Ask me how I know.

X2

No experience doing so but a lot cheaper then buying something because it faded. Now if they were ripped/cut ect then yes, buy new ones. After doing a hardtop to soft top swap (for the first time) yesterday I could tell mine are faded but the color doesn't bother me (yet)

Thanks guys. I'll try throwing them in the washing machine first, then using the Duplicolor.

If they ever do need to be replaced, has anyone tried the Bestop or Rampage brand replacements? !

One more question on this, where is the best place to find the Duplicolor fabric paint in stores? I checked Lowes while I was in there. My next stop will be NAPA. Maybe ACE Hardware? Thanks!

I bought it at Pep Boys, I'm pretty sure Napa or any other parts store will have it. Home Depot doesn't carry it so I doubt if Ace does either.

I got the duplicolor fabric/vinyl paint for mine as well. Looked faded and purple just like your description. Began removing them to paint only to find out what a PITA that is. So i used old bed sheets and newspaper with frog tape and covered it all up and painted away. Looks soooo much better and only costed round 10 bucks. Not bad IMO...

Adding my 2cents..... Go for the Spray! I just did mine 2 weeks ago and saved a lot of money. Especially as it is virtually impossible to find replacements for an LJ.

I had to pull mine off because I was Monstalin-ing my tub, so it was the perfect time. Washed on gentle and then sprayed away with some Duplicolor I got at Advanced Auto.

$150+ or $15 and 30 minutes of your time. Well worth it.

I recently painted my old faded roll bad pads and it changed the look of my Jeep more than I ever thought it would. I went out and bought Duplicolor Fabric paint from Autozone. However, the night before I realized how much of a pain in the ass it would be to remove all of the pads and throw them in the washing machine. So I ended up just soaking them with water first, then scrubbing them with soap, then washing them with water again and finally letting them air dry. The next morning I covered my jeep up with newspapers, tape, ect. and spray painted these bad boys and they look awesome!
