Roll Bar padding and Covers

I need to replace all of the roll bar padding and covers on my 01 TJ. Any suggestions. I keep a best top bikini top on for most of the summer, so Id like the padding and covers to be black, and last. Ive seen the Vertically Driven Sport Bar Covers, and the kits by best top, and the RAPZ. Any experience with any of these? Thanks

I just bought the Bestop kit last week. haven't had a chance to put it on yet, but it looks good, and Bestop's quality is pretty good.

Ours is the best! The others have this weird smell...

Just kidding! Actually, I've never installed that product, and haven't heard any feedback pro or con about them. But we sure sell a lot of them.

Thanks for considering us.

i installed the Bestop roll bar kit on a friend of mines jeep a couple of years ago. The kit went on great and it was a breeze. It is still looking good and my friend only runs a bikini top year around. I'd recommend the Bestop product.

That sounds like a "pro" to me Geoff!
I'm looking to get rid of my purple padding too, lol!
Dark Green and light purple clash terribly!

I've run the Bestop product for a couple of years on the YJ. Good fit & easy install. They've heald their color as well. Ran with the safari mesh top from May to Oct most years in the Bay Area. Just this little stint last year up north with the top off for a whopping 3 weeks.

Me too. What is with the purple on the original padding? My Jeep is garaged most of the time and it has always been funky purple. Any quick links to the Best Top padding?

If your covers are faded but still function you can try Krylon Fusion for Plastic spray paint. It works well with fabric and nylon material, lots of different colors to choose from too. I used it on the old dash pad on a CJ-7 I had years ago and it came out great!!!

Give it a shot if you were planning on replacing them what will $6.00 for a can hurt. You never know, you might like it and be able to save money for other cool parts.

Do you by chance have any pics of your Jeep with that installed?
I was thinking I might go cammo, but I'd love to see it on some Jeeps first!

Is there a reason why you don't just pull the padding off and paint the bars, either black or to match the paint? I like the bars MUCH better without the padding, even before I decided to use my cage as a slider for the rocks.

I put the Bestop rollbar pad kit on my 02 tj and it looks great and was super easy to put on. I was going to try and take the old pads off and wash and spray paint them but they are a pain in the a** to take off so I just cut them. The Bestop kit is made so you dont have to unscrew anything to get them off or on, plus i think there is more padding in them then the stock ones.

when I was younger and driving a CJ7 in the eighties...we all padded our roll bars with pipe insulation and wrapped them with electical tape..takes a lot of time and effort....but they looked killer gave it a really rugged look

At least keep the padding on the bars in the passenger area. It keeps the headaches down, as wearing an M/C helmet in a Jeep looks kinda funny.

Do you all ride ghetto-style with the seats all the way back or something... I've got the padding off on my Jeep and there's no way me or my passenger could hit our heads on those bars with the seats in a correct/safe position.

Passengers in the rear might be able to smack their heads...but considering I don't have a rear seat installed, they shouldn't be back there anyway. lol

I just listed my rollcage padding and cover in the "For Sale" section. They're from a 2005, so they're the beefier ones. And they're black and in excellent condition. Just so you know......

Does my Jeep look like a ghetto cruiser? You never know what will happen in an accident on the road, or in rollover off road. Better safe than sorry.

Krylon Fusion works. I ahve even done faded carpet with it and it holds up well.
