roll cage fitment

So... My coworker with the 05 TJ just pulled in, topless. First time I've ever seen his rollcage. Fully reinforced and welded. I was commenting that I liked it while I helped him put on his spiderweb shade. He hates it and wants to cut out the extra bars. So he can put pads on it.

So... My question is.... Will a 98 rollcage swap into an 05? They look to attach the same way.

Edit: just the back half of the cage.

If it's like mine, and it sounds like it is. you would be better off all the way around to just swap the whole cage.

I'm not sure about compatibility but the TJ runs 97-06
Best bet would be to measure it out and see how she flies.

Mine came out of an 04 Rubi that was being parted out. There were a few things that didn't match perfectly, but that could have been an error on the part of the person who did the assembly too. Once we got it stuffed in there, it's been OK. I hate it, but feel safer having it.

Thanks. It looks like it was welded in place, rather than out of the tub. I'm gonna see if I can convince him that its a good idea to swap them.

The one i have was welded in place in the other Jeep.
Which is why it isn't a perfect fit in mine.

It's a WHOLE LOT easier to R&I the factory roll bar than it is the whole cage. You'll want at least one other pair of hands attached to a strong back to get it done.

He's a weightlifter.

Now, I just have to convince him. I'll throw in the pads for free. Lol.

You might tell him that if he were to cut the welded on parts off he stands a good chance of weakening the cage that's in it now. Taking one out and replacing it will be a LOT less work than just unbolting it.
Now... putting it into your Jeep, that's a WHOLE nother can of worms but don't tell him that part.

I'll have to try that.

I just went and looked at it again. It's definitely a reinforced factory cage.
